So I have had the Greddy for about a year, and the previous owner had it for about 2 years. The WHOLE thing is rust. there are some parts were it rusted holes in the piping, and 2 of the hangers have already rusted off. finally, a 3rd hanger rusted off, and the whole catback is now holding on for dear life. so i need a new one asap..

BUT.. I am not sure what to get! I liked the EVO, but I really didn't like the huge 4" tip. I want something with the same sound, maybe a bit louder is ok. I was looking through the other threads, and sound clips, but it was hard to get a true sound of the exhaust due to people's intakes, and poor recordings.

so what would you do? I do NOT want franken car. I was thinking maybe cattman? thoughts? comments?

I went from GReddy to Frankencar to Cattman.... I like the Cattman a lot. Its definitely noticeable in terms of volume but the tone IMO is nicer than the GReddy. I also like that its a straight through, like the GReddy, while the Frankencar is chambered. And its stainless, which my GReddy wasn't. All the best with the search.

Get an Evo2 which is SS. And get a Y pipe. I just installed my y-pipe and the Evo is meaner

Or just get the cattman...that's what I want to get next.

 

there is a evo2 inthe for sale fourms, but i am not sure if i want another one or not. I think i want to upgrade to the catman, but it costs alot. I already have a y-pipe.

 

I have an Evo2 which is stainless steel and should last ya. With a CAI, Y-pipe and the Evo2 it has a nice very low sounding growl, nothing ricey about it. However, it is definitely much louder than stock w/y-pipe (my only point of reference). Without the Y-pipe it got louder so with stock y-pipe I would say it is noticable versus stock, and w aftermarket y-pipe (I have warpspeed SS) there is no mistaking a very steady drone with gas applied (but again, more of a low sounding growl and nothing ricey about it at all). If you want a noticable sound the Evo2 has it, its straight through design gives good power but isn't the best a silencing things (and the b-section resonator is smaller than a cattman or warpspeed cat-back).

 

I am switching to cattman in the spring.I also have the Evo1 but isn't rusted like yours and I have had it for around 3-4 years too. Mine is mainly the resonator and where the pipes bolt together. I am tired of the 4 inch tip.

 

Does anyone have a sound clip of a Evo2 with a Ypipe?? IF you have a intake thats cool i mainly want to hear a evo2 and ypipe since thats what im thinking about adding to my car next....?

take your pick...right click and save as for both...the first one is the better quality vid...more sound waves were captured from these angles...but this is essentially how the cattman rear section sounds like...I compared it to Ceasar's Chariot and a few others...they all sound the same...whether u have headers or ypipe....the muffler plays a big role in how the engine will end up sounding

I say u go with the cattman rear section over the FC...you stated that u wouldn't mind going a little bit louder...and for sure the cattman will give u the tone u want....I'm not sure which one is louder, but judging from my findings, the greddy is a tad louder than the cattman....but the cattman sounds waaay better IMO...go with cattman :thumsbup:

 

i'm getting rid of my frankencar by spring for a cattman.. i dont think i would want a greddy

 

i would get cattman over greddy. looks nicer IMO and single tip doesn't flow with the maxima.

 

I like the tip but hate the can (muffler chamber) of the greddy. But it flows quite well with the the rear lip

 

I believe single tips look great on 4th gens...and dual tips look great on a 5th gen...only becuz the stock exhaust on a 4th gen comes with a single tip and the stock 5th gen comes with a dual tip....logical? Maybe, but any comments?

 

I agree that it only looks good with the rear valence.

I like the HKS that he has too.... I think it actually sounds as good if not better than the Cattman.

 

HKS is something I would be interested in trying out...whats stopping me is the custom work required to put it on...has to be welded on right?

i've got the cattman rear section...and it looks and sounds great with the y-pipe. I'm still running the stock b-pipe, but i'm going to get that replaced once i get the money. In terms of noise, its not too loud inside the car and has a really nice growl to it at the lower rpms. It also sounds nice at higher rpm's...

 

to have someone make a custom b pipe to work with the hks rear section isn't hard. any muffler shop should be able to do it. i had a full cat back custom made for my 4rth gen for only 200 bucks. and the b pipe is a very simple one to make. it has two bends in it. so when you look at a hks muffler that cost your around 400 bucks and then another 100 bucks(that would be my guess on just making the bpipe) you are about 150 bucks cheaper than the cattman or just about everyone else because i believe everyone else's catback is in the 650 range? i think that the hks is the best looking and best sounding muffler you can get. i have pics on my web page and also have a drive by of the sound clip and i think that there is a sound clip of my set up in the stickeys. my set up is a wsp ypipe, gutted cat, custom b pipe with resonator, and hks rear section.

N1 sounds waaaay too loud, anyone thinking of getting one put on their Max should think 3 times before doing that. I had a custom exhaust with Apexi N1 3" inlet turbo muffler, it looked bad, sounded bad, and I got rid of it fast. Some kid ended up putting it on his 90 Integra automatic with 3 diff reducers to make it fit on his little 1" stock catback piping.

I highly recomend Cattman exhaust, with my HS headers I can't even hear it much while crusing at 60MPH. It does make itself noticed when you stab the gas pedal or run it to redline in 4th gear- it sounds verrry nice.

 

give me a decent price for it when you get rid of it, i have a y pipe and test pipe... that should tone it up a little

is there any performace gain between different exhausts? like frankencar vs. cattman vs. greddy sorta thing....sorry for such a noob question.

if there is a performance difference...then it would have to be the frankencar exhaust....heard its chambered compared to the straight thru design like the greddys and stromungs

 

Apparently the performance difference is in the fact that the GReddy and Cattman are straight through mufflers while the Frankencar is chambered (like the stock muffler, but prob still more free flowing than stock) for excellent sound suppression. So it seems that the Frankencar is more restrictive in that sense but because the difference is only a couple of whp, it hasn't been worth anyone's while to actually dyno to figure this out.

 

What is the droning like on all your cars? I recently had a custom cat-back system built with Magnaflows resonator (4") and a Magnaflow muffler (Street Series 14830). The system is quite loud to my liking. Around 1,900 to 2,300 RPM ... the droning is so loud that I can't really carry out a conversation in the car.

I'm looking for a relatively quite car with hidden powers that come alive when needed! The droning is almost unbearable. With the exception of the air filter (which is a K&N), everything else is stock.

I am interested in hear more about the HKS setup. However, any suggestions would be greatly appreicated.
