i bought a maxima 97 with a 98 engine. I can pull the codes out of the ecm with a code reader, but i can't seem to find a way to enable the check engine light.

Whoever haded before it seemed to have desabled the check engine light.

If someone has some info please inform.

For whatever reason, sometimes the CEL won't appear even when codes are present.

What codes are you getting?

Have you tried checking them with the ECU screw? The CEL should definately light up when doing that process. If it doesn't then I would agree that the light itself is not working. But just the CEL not comming on when codes are present doesn't mean the light doesn't work

is the light burned out

 

turn the car to the ON POS the one right before start all the dummy lights should come on including the check engine light. If not they removed the bulb or it is burnt out.

I think you right. When i turn the key to on poisition
all the lights come on but the check engine light.

The light probably gone.

 

time to rip the cluster out and change the bulb

 

I think the is the same problem with my car, what bulb do i need???
