Missfire cyl #1

Code 6-8 missfire in cyl #1. I tried to remidy by moving coilpacks for #1, #5. Worked fine for about a day. Then today the idle is rough again no code yet. Am I better off just changing the fuel injector or??? Any chance of saving the injector?

Thanks in advance.

moving the coil pack will only move the miss, not a remedy. thats just the way to determine if the coil is bad.

Moving a suspected misfiring coil will be a good indicator of which coil to replace. I had the same problem about 7 months ago.

if i got a code for cylinder one i wouldnt move it....id ditch that pack and replace it... you have to significant issue with the coilpack to trigger a CEL

Anytime my coil pack had missed, it triggered a flashing CEL, then went solid, even after I moved it to another cyl.

Misfire could be from a bad plug, coil or injector. If the misfire moved with the coil, then you know its the coil. If the same cylinder keeps misfiring after switching coils, then it's either the plug or injector.

Oh and 95's aren't known for coil failure - so if you do end up diagnosing it do a bad coil, just replace the one that is bad. This is unlike the 99's, where all 6 coils WILL fail and it's better to swap out all 6 at once.

I had the same problem, and it's my cylinder 2 thats missing. I thought it was plugs and/or coils, so replaced my V powers for the second time in 3 weeks, no change. Replaced the coil, good for a week or so, back to same problem. Now I must remove/replace the injector on that cylinder. Odd part is that it only happens sporadically, not all the time. Leads me to believe the injector is clogged up.

yah they definately are not But as we approach 10-11-12 model years on these 4th gen maximas you kinda cant dismiss it.....you shoudl troubleshoot it the sameway no matter what. Its seems as though more than 90% of misfires on maximas All years are coilpack related (unless you got a old school VG dis cap)

probably your coil pack, id start there first. Autozone claims they can check to see if they're bad for free, just have to make an appointment. anyone done this?

After moving the coilpack I did get a flashing CEL yesterday and then the same code 6-8 Cyl #1 Missfire. I removed the coil[pack and the plug. I had oil on the plug itself. I cleaned up the plug as I didnt have a spare one at the time and reinstalled it last night. I have not had the same missing or missfiring issues yet today. Since there was oil on the plug should I put in something like the cans of engine restore to the oil to possibly seal up where the oil is leaking onto the spark plug itself and then replace the plug to. Any suggestions? Has anyone had a bad experience using a can of restore?

Was there any oil in the spark plug chamber? or just on the electrode side?

Restore isn't going to do much. If you insist on using an additive, use auto-rx, www.auto-rx.com.

there's more than a few of us that have oily #1 plugs. I had a good thread going on this with good pics, but I can't seem to find it (google searching really doesn't work).

you might have a bad tube seal -- but in my case I did not (the tube itself was clean). check your plug tube, if there is oil running down the sides then you're in luck - you found the problem. get a valve cover gasket set and replace the tube seals.

if you're like me and the tube is clean -- well, then it is a mystery and we can both only hope it doesn't get any worse. I really don't have the first clue why my #1 plug is oily -- I also did a compression check, and it was fine, so its not the head gasket. for grins I'm doing an AutoRX cycle - if it fixes the problem I'll let the .org know.

I wasn't saying the coil can't be bad- but that on the 95/96s it's more one faulty coil rather than a bad batch. Agreed at that 10-11 yrs of age, we might start seeing some more failures.
