Alright, fellas!!! Need some tuning advice from the vets!
Ok, so I FINALLY have everything installed...now it's time for some fine tuning. Ok, so I am having some trouble with balancing the soundstage, so I need some help from you vets here. The front and rear soundstages are well balanced at present, the frontstage takes over and the rear is almost completley unnoticed...it's VERY nice. However, with the sub in the back, I'm not quite getting the response I want. SO, here's what I was thinking need be done in order to compensate for all of this...
- Turn the gain on the FS down.
- Turn the balance on the HU more on the front
- Increase the sub gain
So I would pretty much be tinkering with these settings in order to get the desired effect. Any thoughts?
(PS - My ideal thought would be to run the comps using the 4150, get 2 new subs and a dedicated amp, but that ain't gonna happen...yet

Yeah, it's hard to tune over the internet. And lots of us have differet listening tastes/definitions of how stuff should sound (such as the rear fill vs. no rear fill argument, and how bassy we like music). So yea, you at least have to be more specific about what's wrong with the response....but I will give you one option to try/play with on top of trying to increase gains....try switching the phasing on the sub and individual speakers.
I've heard phasing make a HUGE difference in the way a sub sounds. You close to Don? I bet he can tune it. Or Chu or me maybe?
You sure you have enough woofer/power for your tastes?

Sounds like you're wanting more bass out of the setup? Part of the problem may be all of that sound deadening on the back of the rear seats. I would suggest adjusting the gain to the sub, and seeing if it helps it overcome the sound deadening thats on the back seat (although I wonder if this is really ideal, trying to overcome rather than just compensate for a lack of bass). Is the sub ported into the cabin in anyway? That may be a consideration for future re-structure of the substage. I would suggest first adjusting the sub gain, then go from there.
Steve, I think Chu prolly lives closest to him. Dan if ya wanna take a ride up here Saturday Chu is supposed to be coming by. Manny will most likely come as well, especially if I give up the IDX/XEQ he wants.
is this in a ported or sealed box? if it's a sealed box with the subs fireing towards the back of the trunk, then you might want to considere porting the rear deck.. if it's firing towards the back of the seats, then port the seats.. my subs are firign into the back of the seats and i've isolated the trunk from the cabin so i get raw bass.. tighter and more responsive.

Try adjusting the phase and gain. That usually provides some more output.
That sub isn't gonna do much for ya in the trunk, especially with the amazing deadening job you did. If you want to get the best of SPL and SQ with a sealed box, you should have it fire into the cabin, either through the seats or in the rear deck, and seal the trunk off from the cabin. In your amazingly dead car, you will get great sound.

Well, looks like you are going to be the first one to see the fully overhauled Max, Don.
Once I get everything in I will give you a ring and arrange a time when I can come up so I can sponge off your wisdom....er, I mean, you can show me how to do it right.
