I seen some older ( and some newer cars, such as the TL ) have a digital gas readout...i kinda want this feature in the max that way i will know xactly how many gallons n such i actually have left without fearing the dreaded orange gas light too much...i was searching google and couldnt find anything, is there a way to get a digital readout for gas on our cars?

 

at every fillup, i reset the trip meter. once i hit 300 miles on the trip meter, i fill up, since I get about 350 to a tank.

 

Why bother? When the orange light comes on you still have almost 2.0 gallons left, which is plenty of time to find a gas station.

 

It's not very accurate anyway ...

 

this is one of the dumbest threads ive ever read .... like the other guy said you still have plenty of miles to drive after the gas light comes on ... how hard is it to watch your gas guage ... also set your trip odometer and LEARN your cars gas mileage ... this thread is dumb !

Only 350 to a tank dang i just drove 450 miles and still got 1/8 of a tank left on that 1 tank

 

you could always convert your car to 3.5 and use the '02 ECU and wiring harness, which would include the gauge cluster.

Once you know about how many miles you get on a fillup, you can almost ignore the gas gauge. You can also check how any mods or maintenance you do effect you mileage. You'll also never have to do the "do I have enough to make it" prayer, because you can predict how far your remaining gas will get you fairly accurately.

 

Yea, because asking whether or not something is possible in the Max, a mod I'm sure quite a few people would like, makes this a dumb thread.

 

He's not saying he's too stupid to read the guage, he just would like the digital. What's the big deal?

I noticed that people have said that they put premium into their 4th Generation Maximas. The manual says that the car takes regular, does putting in better gas do anything?

 

It's recomended by the manual or, when you fill up, we read the instructions on the gas cap, and do so ...

From what I understand though, the cars on the dyno are meant to be run at 91+ and from what I was told the 99 maxima was made to run on 87. Does the owners manual say to fill up on 91?

Lets assume that I am wrong, which I probably am, if the previous owner ran the car for 87,000 miles on 87 does that give me enough reason to skip the car and look for another?

 

wow ... dude all vq motors require premium fuel..91+ or higher !! 93 is best for performance and gas mileage

Im buying this car on Saturday, and dont worry I plan on putting 91+ in it. I just need to know if him putting 87 should be reason enough for me not to buy it. I drove it around on regular and it performed nicely, no knocking whatsoever. I do see that the 91+ should yiled some miniscule performance gains..hehe

 

Ok, Excellent! This is a black 99 5spd that was babied all its life and the car shows it. Cant wait to bring her home

 

fill it up before it hits the E, duh. problem solved and and no fabricating of digital readout and new problems arising.....
