Y-Pipe Bolt Stripped!

Ok so i go to look under my car today, see my y-pipe with one side tight, the other one loose, and im like w.t.f. so i try to tighten it, and it just spins. this is what i see when i get it out. I know its 11/16, but can anyone tell me where to get a new one, or what might have caused this? my car sounds like **** with a leak right under me :/

Edit: Just went to autozone and ace, neither had the bolt. WTF!

The Home Despot should have a simliar bolt for cheaper. I don't think it's an 11/16" either unless you put something with metric threads and std bolt head on. All bolts/nuts on the maxima are metric. All GM cars are even metric too. I believe it's a 14mm if I remember correctly.

yeah i dont have any metric wrenches (got stolen). I think it was 5/8, not 11/16 doh! but I got it tightened down enough right now, used a vice grip to push the head of the bolt into the flange and tightened it down. It still leaks, but not enough to notice unless your sitting on the ground. I will check the depot sometime soon

go to a pawn shop and get the right metric socket for $1 so you don't round the new bolt head when you put it in.

1) Do not buy hardware for your exhaust at Home Depot, or any other hardware store. It is unlikely that they have the correct grade (strength) of bolt. If you insist on shopping non-Nissan, buy Class 10.9 only.

2) Use proper metric sockets. A set of sockets is not expensive, and they last forever. Torque to spec using a torque wrench.

will do. BTW the head of the bolt said 8.8. would that be the class? would that also account for the incredible ease of stripping? i mean all the threads are just filled with metal. it looks as if something melted into it! All my tools were stolen from my garage last summer, which was a ***** because i had a big mac chest filled with everything youd ever need... im slowly getting back to where i was though. its just a pain to lose 2000 dollars worth of tools.

8.8 is the class, which is below 10.9. I haven't checked, but I'm pretty sure Nissan used stud+nut hardware at this joint, which can be forged to a much better strength than 8.8.

I would simply tap out the hole again and put in some fresh 10.9s or Nissan hardware.
