What to do? Confused
I have about 3 weeks till I start takin snowboarding trips and that means no more 20's. Since my deal on an FX fell through, i'm stock with the max. My stocker's are painted gun metal but unfortunately they are starting to chip. I'm looking into getting them powder coated hyper black, but its gonna run me around 500 bucks mainly cause they have to remove the paint I put on them.
Question 1. Is the stock SE wheel painted or powder coated? If they are painted, then that wil have to be removed also, cause powder coating is a process where dry paint is applied to the application and then baked. Now if a painted surface is below the powder coating, when placed in an oven, the paint will run and leave a runny looking job.
Question 2. Need new tires, hate RSA. Looking for a 245/45/18 at the most resonable price. Anyone know of a good winter tire that is cheaper then 250 bucks a tire.
Question 3. Since its gonna cost me 500 bucks to powder coat my winter stockers I thought of just buying hyper black wheels for 500 bucks. What do you guys think, stockers or aftermarket. These are the wheels I'll get, if i don't take the powder coat way.
Can anyone photochop these on my car.
i'm looking for the cheapest alternative, cause my money is pretty much tied up all winter, do to my excessive trips to vermont and out west.
there is a big price difference if i go with a 235/45/18. Anyone have these size tires and how is.
Thanks in advance
Andrew

I just called a few places earlier today to get prices on getting the 350Z wheels I just bought blasted. I found a shop close by that will do it for 15 per wheel. The kick is he said with their machine, I can leave the tires on! I would just have yours blasted and then repaint them yourself using the "paint your rims" sticky. Seems easy enough. Just take your time, and alot of clear. I tried to photoshop for you but couldnt find any decent pics to do it with. I did however find this:TS-8 Its the Civic that has the rims...
BTW, do you guys think these will look decent gunmetal for winter rims?
Not to thread jack..

Winter Tire
Not much cheaper, but these are solid tire for the winter. Or just check a local tire shop, just make sure to look at the mfg. date

You shouldn't be taking that Maxima on ski trips. I have travelled all over British Columbia and wouldn't dream of driving that car to a ski hill if you plan on keeping it any length of time. Not only will it rust, but you will get paint chips all over it.
I live about 80 miles away from Whistler and have seen many a good car get ruined from driving that road, as well as roads in the Interior to places like Sun Peaks, Big White and Silver Star.
Do yourself a favor and buy a winter beater!

The max lived up to its potential last year. She went to Mount Tremblant ( Canada), and Vermont on a weekly basis. And the only problems I had were the painted stockers were chipping.
And my 95 max, isn't to trust worthly anymore, tiried fixing her up yesterday, hope she doesn't stall out anymore
My suggestion was just a thought. I have no doubts that your Max can make it to any ski hill in North America. It is the toll on the car 5 or 10 years down the road that would concern me if I planned on keeping the car that long.
I don't know what an FX is. I was merely suggesting some POS that wouldn't cost much more than $1,000 -$2,000. You're already spending a bundle on winter wheels & tires that would go a long way towards my solution.
What's wrong with the 95? Can't you get it up and running for a winter car and park the 6th Gen?

The FX is the infiniti FX35 SUV. This the car I see being ideal to fit my lifestyle.
The 95 has 139,000 miles on it, so anything can go anytime with it. I don't want to get stuck 5 hours away from home if i can help it. I don't plan to keep the max more longer as in like 2 years or so. I gave the 95 a tune up last night and she seemed to be running nice and smooth. But she's been know to die out, out of the blue. And that can range from a bad alternator, battery, maf, bad sensors, spark plugs, etc. till i'm able to found the exact problem, my 6th gen is my mountain getter.
TheGAME - I like them tires alot, give the max a rugged mean look and they have good ratings. I gonna see what my local shops can do as far as price goes.

I was searching for winter tires today and was told to go with a 225/40/18. The 225 is quite a bit narrower and a tad shorter, which is better for snow. They're also a more popular size, therefore alot cheaper. If their winter wheels get something for purpose, not looks

wow, 225/40/18 sounds like it will be significantly smaller.
overall wheel height with a 245/45/18 tire is 26.68" circumference is 83.8 in ( one revolutoin of the tire is the circumference,)
overall whell height with a 225/40/18 tire is 25.08" circumference is 78.8 in
thats more then 1.5" difference in overall height definetly gonna mess with the computer, mileage and speedo

You looking for a real snow tire or just an aggressive all season?
I went with the Big O Tires Euro tour. It has good siping and lines. I will find out how they do in the snow pretty soon. They go for about $150 a tire installed including the tire warranty.
