of course the 3rd Gen Maximas come with 205/65-15 but i wanted a thicker tire for the traction, performance, and looks. So I did some research and found these Dunlop SP Sport 5000 for $68 a tire. Thing is i can get them in a 225/60-15 size. Should I do that... what are the pro's and con's of doing that? You can look up the tires at the following link... http://www.discounttiredirect.com/dt...odeIndex=28604

i have sp5000's in a 225 60 R15 and i like em. my car is lowered 1.5" and they don't rub at all. I'm very pleased with the ride and i'm thrilled at the performance. i had 215 50 15's Sp4000's and the 5000's are sooooo much better. The hydro resistance is improved dramatically and they ride alot better. also, they are W rated (168mph). If you can afford them 215 50 15's, or 225 50 15's, or POSSIBLY 135 50 15's would look alot nicer. my biggest complaint is how much sidewall there is. but that's probably because i'm used to a 50 series tire. i'll post some pics when i get a chance, but i have nothing but praise for these tires, and in this size. i had em before the car was lowered and they improved the handling actually. just the stiffer sidewalls made the difference.

225/60 fit fine, I wouldn't get anything with a 50 sidewall. Your speedometer will be off, a 225/50 is almost an inch and a half shorter than a 205/65

I ordered 225/60-15's, and had 205/65-15 stock... i dont know where you got the 50 from... but what will this do to my speedometer again? And is there a site or reference that will calculate this stuff for me?

Sorry I was replying more to flyry110, yea there is a few sites you could go to. Try http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html.

I just noiced that you have a GXE. I'm not sure I would put 225's on those wheels, GXE wheels are 6" compared to SE 6.5". but I don't know they might fit.

great...

going from 206/65-15 to 225/60-15 only makes my speedometer .5% slower. Not much difference at all.

That means when my speedo says 35 i'll be really going 35.175.

or when it say 60 i'll be going 60.3

Not bad at all..

Re: great...

yeah, look up the total diameter on www.tirerack.com for the tires you ahve and the stock tires. I noticed VERY LITTLE speedo difference. i checked it with one of those "watch your speed" bulliten boards that post your speed as you go and it was dead on at 50 mph (well it was a 25!) my 50 series were 1.1 to 1 so at 100 you were really goin 90, that kinda thing.

I am running 225/60 R15 Yokohomas with no ill effects. My speedo is fine and they offer some serious traction and hydro resistance!
