Normally stock autos do low 16's, high 15's. One guy ran 15.6 stock. I don't think there's anything wrong with your car (89 mph is more than fine for a stock auto). I think it's your driving

i think that my transmission is frigged up. i was shifting through 1 - 2 - 3, which had given me my best time of the day. i also had a whole lotta **** in my trunk. i need to do a 5 spd swap..........anyone wanna sponsor me. also i think i need new coil packs, or it could just be my tranny. i need to get it looked at. oh and also my rear shocks were blown, and still are, my agx's and s-techs are going in next saturday, along with my old rstb, fstb, and a rsb

^ so you ran a 15.4 with mainly an intake and Y. Thats pretty nice for an auto. Aleast i think so. My friends stock GLE 98 ran a 15.85. In complete stock form.

60' - 2.833
There's your problem. Either you were spinning like crazy or babying it off the line. You should be getting at least a 2.3 60ft (which still isn't that good) which would put you into the 15s. If traction isn't an issue, try launching from a slight stall. Hold the brake while giving it a little gas, keep the rpms around 1500, and launch from there.
If traction is the issue, then try some lower tire pressures, new tires, or get used to slow times.

usually theres some aspect that you can pick out of a run thats slower than usual and help diagnose whats wrong with your car or your driving lol... but the 60', 1/4, and MPH on this run are all really slow. I know you said you might need to coil packs shocks etc. Whats seems wrong with your tranny that you were talking about? And not to overstate the obvious but i ran faster than that with a bad knock sensor.. are you sure yours is good?

suspension doesn't make a stock automatic car faster in the 1/4.

Do the 5spd swap, it will be your best friend, or you can get some nitrous and run a 12.6 in your stock auto like Jime.

well technically it does but not for the back. with poor shocks in the front you can loose traction hence making your car slower.

I'm racing at my first drag event in New Zealand at the 'Summer Nationals 2006' on the 2nd January and I'm s.h.i.t scared! :O

Automatic 1996 A32 SMX Maxima.

Got a full 2.25" exhaust, resonator, sealed POD and extractors/headers but have never legally raced and have never done a quarter mile. Does anyone have any practical launch advice other than stamp my foot down when the pre-green yellow light goes?

Roll off slowly then floor it?

Start in 1st gear then change up to 2nd then D as I get off the line?

Sit in neutral @ 2,000rpm then drop the gearstick into D and floor it?

ANY HELP WOULD BE REALLY APPRECIATED HERE GUYS!

Going to take the front passenger seat / back seats / spare tyre / floormats / car jack etc. out and hope to shed maybe 200lbs. Anything else you guys think?

You have an NZ Max, so that measn VI correct?

I personally do not like to 'brake tq' to 2k, becaue IMO, it lags, and the engine/tranny need to catch up to each other, so idle, or 1100 is good for a 3.0L... But that's IMO, and I have no slips to back it up, so take whatever I say in this forum with 3 grains of salt.

But considering this event is to take palce in about a month, I'm sure you will have read through most of the threads valid to your sitiation in this forum, and the 4g forums. I'm sure you will have read to the point where you do not need any advice from a slipless postwhore, and you may even, by then, be able to post your own thread about it ...

Maxima85 ran a 15.4 stock at my local track, SpiG and I were there to see it first hand, it was in his 96 auto, bone stock.

I believe you, but then again neal's 5-speed beater also ran 14.5 bone stock. Those are exceptions though. Most autos do high 15/low 16, and most 5-speeds do low 15 stock.

I wish I had MEVI or 00VI but only the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) Maximas get Nissan's variable intake system (called Cefiros in Japan because Japanese can't say the letter 'x' properly I think).

Tried launching under Police supervision at a large carpark last night (how's that? These cops saw me sitting there, came up and asked me what I was doing - I told them I was thinking of doing some launches in the carpark to get ready for upcoming drag races and they said 'okay - we'll sit by to make sure you don't do anything stupid.' That's cool.

Thanks for the advice mate. I think I'll idle and launch, waiting for the big kick down into 1st to make up lost ground.

Then post my timeslips...

Look I'm probably wrong but what guy likes to sound like they don't what they're on about when it comes to cars..."Yep - thought it was that" you say to your girlfriend when the mechanic tells you your engine has died because you failed to put water, oil, transmission fluid into it...

I mean that when I launch there is a 'dead space' from about 0 - 30kph while the engine is moving up the rpm range - then all of a sudden in my SMX it suddenly opens up and I'm off till about 130 or 140kph (80 - 85mph roughly) when it slows down again and climbs at a slower but still respectable rate.

Yep - they were nice cops. Rare you can say that, it's a s.h.i.t job and must be brutally demoralising.

shout out to the 4th gen auto guys! phat6 is meeting up with me at this drag event, we will have the only 2 maximas at the drags ( this will be a NZ record for most maximas at a meet) , and we will be tossed into the all motor class versus 35 honda civics ...

i dont have much experience with an auto, but I know plenty here do, help phats out so we can represent strong.

hey phats just start your own thread and let some of the experienced 4th gen auto guys toss in their 2 cents.

whats wild about his smx maxima is that it came with headers, stillen fstb, stillen popcharger and all other kinda stuff stock !

MAXIMA POWER !!!
