H&R and Tokico Blues?

H&R and Tokico Blues?

Hi all,

I know that Blues should not be paired with low springs due to leaking problem, but what about H&R? They seem to give the smallest drop at around 1.3"/1.4".
I just need them to last well for 30-35k miles.

They'll blow eventually as they're OEM replacements. If you absolutely must go cheap, get a set or GR2 struts but I warn you with an old adage, "You get what you pay for." If I have learned anything since I started modding, it's don't go cheap. Pay for the quality or you'll regret it every time you turn the key.

Did people actually had them blowing off from H&Rs, or you think they will based on the fact that they blew out on other more lowering springs?

I don't think its a price/quality issue here, but more of compatibility.

P.S. I currently have the GR2s, but they worn out on stock springs after ~40K.

They will blow because they aren't designed to handle the added stress of a lowered Maxima. It's not quality that's the issue, it's design.

Hold on, but why then Tokico pairs their Blues with lowering springs? The drop seems to be even more than H&R's.

Good question. My only answer would be it's CE that's putting the combination together, not Tokico.

Well it seems that Tokico is the one that pairs them, not CE, although it might be a "special order" from CE.

H&R and the Blues go together just fine. A nice smooth spring and a softer strut yields you a great ride. That combo was one of the original suspension set ups available for the Maxima and many early org members had or still have that set up.

I'm riding on eibachs and tokico blues. Pretty stiff ride which has its plus' and minus'.

lol..dude NJMAXSEL just told you that they are OK and he knows people who had them ...

you should spend the extra 125$ and get the illuminas! .. trust me youll thank yourself later

I had H&R's and Tokico blues for approx. 40k miles and they were still fine when I sold my Max. The ride was pretty comfortable too, and handled way better than stock.

Buy them, you'll be glad.

I have a '97 GXE with 130K miles, and the OEM struts are blown. I am thinking of replacing them with KYB AGX struts, and keeping the stock springs (and getting work done at Les Schwab). Will I get improved handling and maintain a comfortable ride? I haven't heard about this combination. I don't want a ride that's too harsh. Les Schwab does not offer Tokico Illuminas, otherwise I'd get 'em, 'cause people sound happy.

Go KYB.Tokicos are stiff and ride harder.IMHO the Tokicos are good if want want that super stiff feel.the GR-2s ride better.Ive had them both so i know.

I've been running that setup for close to 2 yrs. I blew out the driver side front, but I also destroyed most of the suspension parts on that side due to my high speed off ramps. The rest of them are holding up just fine. Listen to the people that actually tried the blues out (with a sensible drop). Not the sheep that just agree and go with the general consensus. No offense to you sheeps, I appreciate the warm textiles that you provide.

Sorry but you have you're information backwards. The kyb's are alot harsher than any set of tokico's especially in the cold.

I have tokico blues coupled with h & r's and 58k miles later they are still riding fine, nothing is blown. Mind you, these struts/shocks already had ~10-15k on them when I put them on. SO....~70k miles worth of driving on the shocks/struts and about the same on the springs (they were purchased used) they are still going strong.

THanks for the info. I am considering either the blues or illuminas, and use on my stock GXE springs (with 130K miles). Do springs wear out? Should I consider replacing them? I want a comfy ride, but also nudge up the performance a bit. I've read that the Tokico's worked well with stock springs, even the Illuminas. Any idea if the Les Schwab OEM gas shocks would be comparable with the blues?

If you're going to stay with stock springs definately go with the illumina's. The adjustability will be great and you'll be able to fine tune you're suspension how you want it.
