Keyless entry module location

I've been told that it is in the right side of the trunk paneling near where the jack goes. I looked earlier but couldn't find the exact location or find the pre-existing harness that should plug into my newly acquired module. My car didn't come with keyless, just purchased a module from a maxima.org member. I'd appreciate any help in pointing me in the right direction as far as module/harness location. Thanks in advance for any help,

Derek-

In the trunk section above where the jack goes, its normally mounted there.
Look deep inside the cavity thats between the trunk and fender.
The wiring should already be there, its probably tucked down inside there.

Located the harness. Now it is just a matter of figuring out how and where to install the module. I'm considering taking the jack out of that location and using some sheet metal screws to secure the module. Maybe if someone could hook me up with a pic or something to give ideas. I've tried a search to no avail.

Thanks for the thread. I don't have the search function. It shows two incoming plugs to the module, 1 the 8 or so pin connector type with several wires, the other a single signal type transfer cable of some sort. I found the first plug, right where the thread stated it would be. Should I also have the second signal cable? Do I need this cable? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From what I've gathered, yes. That is assuming you have the correct module per maxima generation which corresponds to your car, same remote, and have located necessary wiring plug(s) for integration. I've found the one, just trying to find out what the other cable is........

guys, im having a weird problem with my maxima. Since I bought the car, my power locks work only with the car ON. If the car is off, locks don't work. I have the keyless entry module in the trunk but it won't fire up when i try the keyless entry test (pull key in-out of ignition atleast 6 time in 10 seconds).

I'm really confused about why I'm having this problem. Can't be a fuse right? I don't know too much about this car. I know that the window/locks control switch in the driver door is faulty. Any help is appreciated.

I'm a tech, so I work by process of elimination considering your givens. To me, from what you give, it sounds like the plug with many wires attached to your module is somehow losing constant or remote connection with the battery, causing it to lose connectivity when turned off. This means that one of such wires has probably been cut or frayed or disconnected by some sorts of means. A schematic and a meter would definetly be your best friend.

But do ALL lock/unlock messages go through the keyless entry box or just messages when the car is off? I agree with you though, the module is obviously not seeing the 12V. Where can i find a schematic of this?
thanks.

I wouldn't think that all lock/unlock messages go through the module, just those keyed by remote activation. I'm sure if you have search access on this site that you can find it. I don't have this access, wondering how much you have to donate to gain such...

Hopefully. lol. I'm currently trying to find wiring schematics for the 95-99 maximas to see if there were any changes in wiring to the module. Do I know if a module from a 96 will work with a 99? No. Can I make it work, yes. The hard part will be figuring out how to compensate if changes are needed. We'll see how it goes.

It was $20, but it looks like it is $25 now. It is worth it for sure though.

Pulled apart the trunk of my buddies max to try and find where the grey single strand wire with snap plug goes from the trunk module. I still cannot find if this is needed beyond the other plug I found in the trunk, or where it goes and what it is for. Will someone please help me with this!

If grey cable unplugged, keyless works from within 2 feet distance from module only. When plugged in, works from any distance. Therefore, the grey signal amplifies the signal through the power antenna. Should be tucked back there I hope.

otherwise you could rig up a ghetto antenna, just run a long length of wire throughout the side of the car... Same effect as hooking up a long speaker wire to the antenna terminal on a home stereo.
