Sell or part out 95?

Posted in the classifieds, but no one responded so I"ll ask in here. The tranny went on my 95 Granite pearl GXE auto, and I bought a 95 Black emerald 5spd in its place. The granite pearl one is in excellent shape as you can see below. To be in perfect running condition the car needs new O2 sensors, a temp sensor and of course a new transmission. That will all run ~$800 more. Do you think its worth it to fix the tranny and sell that car, or part it out and keep whatever parts I dont need? The new 5spd ran only $2500, so if I make out with $2500 from the Auto thats cool, or even $1500 cause thats how much a swap would have been thats fine too. But I know in full running condition the car is worth a lot more than the $2500. Just curious for everyones opinion. The car will be returned fully to stock btw, except for the y pipe.

120k, orig paint, no dents , no swirls, I professionally detail cars and I keep this thing extremley clean. Always ran with 93 gas, synthetic oil, regular changes every 3,000 as well as all the other maintenance things. granite pearl is a very rare color, which is why I dont want to let it go.

You won't make much money parting it out. Your best bet is to have another auto tranny slapped in and then sell it. Fix the bad o2 and temp sensor and you'll easily get 3000 for it - far more than what you'll get for it as a parts car or by parting it out.

Wow my car is 1996 auto and it has 119955 miles almost 120000. Hope my trans does not give up on me. If you have maintained your car why did the trans go so early. Did you change your fluid often, did you drive hard to the red line always thank you.

The transmission went due to the nitrous kit, another validation that the automatics cant handle the power. I bought the car in May 2002 and had the tranny fluid changed once, I've only put 10,000 miles on it since owning the car. I wont sell it for $2500 because I'd be losing money over all, and the one I just bought was in "ok" shape for $2500, this would sell here for at least $1,000 more.

Fix the tranny take off all of the after market stuff (rims, headlights ,corners etc.) put the stock stuff on it and you can get with the rebuilt tranny close to the $4000 dollars. Then sell you after market stuff separately and you are set.

Thats most likely what I will end up doing, I just wasnt sure how much money people end up bringing in from parting out the car. Would be a better idea if the car was wrecked or unfixable for a reasonable amount of money.
I have 2 maxima's, so all the aftermarket parts would just be swapped between cars.

This is back to stock:

I also have a set of the sawblade rims to put on there if I feel like getting rid of them

Man, I love that color. If you weren't intent on selling it, I'd almost swap the trannies between the cars. However, I do have a thing for green too...and know it can shine as well. I'd say try to get another auto real quick, swap it in yourself if you can, swap the sensors and sell it for a good amount. It won't be terribly hard to sell for more than 2500 with it working perfectly, especially with how you keep that car. I can't wait to see your new 5MT to shine like the one you have.

That was the original plan actually, I dont want to sell the granite pearl because its my favorite color on 4th gens. However, the work for the swap is a lot, and I dont know that I want to go through with it just for the color, ya know? Oh, and the 5spd is shining quite nicely:

I need a bigger, cleaner garage

i wouldnt part it out....but thats only because i dont have anywhere to keep a car that doesnt run.

Man, that paint is niiiiice!
I want to paint my car that color, cept a little darker.
I would say fix it, put the sawblades back on, detail it, and sell it. You would end up getting more money for it, and it would be ALOT less of a hassle than trying to part it out....It looks to be in really good condition so you could get some good cash for it!

Goodluck!

Forgot to say.
I vote for taking $500 from me, and swapping out every single body panel on that car onto mine, and taking my green body.

Are referring to my sig pic? I have Cefiro headlights, and the cornerlights just happen to be brighter with the reflectors that are in them compared to the stock corner light lense.

blackmaxx96: i like your thought, i considered that with my green one because I dont like the tan interior, or the green as much. It will be very missed if I get rid of it. I suppose the green one could always be repainted to

Fix and sell.

If you parted it out, you would pretty much have to sell everthing short of the frame and various other small parts, to make as much as you would selling the car.

You should be able to get atleast $2500 fot it

Hello Venompwr2: I read your post and saw the condition of your vehicle. I have to agree with 2 Da Max -- parting out a car (unless it is a rare collector parts vehicle) is a PITA. I still have various parts from several vehicles that are collecting dust. Based on the price of these 4th Gens lately, you could also try to find a low mileage used trans and have it installed/install it yourself if you are so inclined. BTW, where did you purchase that great rear spoiler on the trunk? That is the first one I've seen that actually comes off the trunk a little instead of the usual aftermarket "lips" that are attached with two-sided tape and mount basically flush with the back edge of the trunk.

I have a 98 SE that came with the factory spoiler, but I would like to purchase one of these for my sister's base 4th Gen.

Any info would be great and good luck with the '95.

Hi, I bought the spoiler from paradox systems, trunk spoiler it does just attach with the double sided tape, maybe the placement of mine made it look different but it is actually flush with the edge of the trunk.

95MaxRB26-DETT: I'm 20 and I dont have a need 3 cars, thats what it comes down to, I'd rather have 2 and some extra money in the bank than letting it go down in value with no use for the car. Here's how it went, drove the auto max for the past 3 years, August '05 the tranny went, September '05 I bought a brand new 2005 sentra with the intentions of doing a 5spd swap on the maxima. October '05, I find a guy selling a 5spd max locally, cheap but needs some work, so I bought it for a parts car. November '05, I realize I'd rather not swap transmissions since I already have a running 5spd car ( the color just isnt as nice) so I decide to boycott the swap plans and sell the original car and keep the 5spd max and the sentra.

I'm at 125k on my 1995 auto. Been through quite a few bottles of nitrous on it. Hope my tranny doesn't give out right away cuz I am not in a good financial position to make extensive repairs right now lol

Given the Granite Pearl Maxima's condition, you should fix the tranny, return it to stock and sell it privately. Don't part it out.

I have the identical 95 Black Emerald, 5-speed as yours. I'm partial to that color given I ordered it from the factory loaded back in June 1994.

venompwr: I see that you're a pretty avid detailer, and would love to hear your process and get more before and after pictures (I've taken up "true" detailing; ie, not just throwing a coat of wax on, as a hobby, and have spent some pretty extensive time on my ride). I would suggest you either (or both) head over to the detailing forums, or autopia.org and post your pictures along with the products/machines/techniques used to create that finish. I love seeing the transformation. Good work, and IMO, you really shouldn't be that disappointed with the color.

Oh damn, I just noticed your in Buffalo. I'm currently going to school in Rochester right now. Small world I guess.

I'm actually a member on autopia.org but I dont ever post up there, I kind of forget about that forum most of the time. I do a lot of experimenting with different products to get the finish I"m looking for. Usually, as you probably know the differences can some times be very small, but enough for you to be happy and the only one who'd ever know. I spent a lot of time on this car, but it still needs to be re-dont because its not nice enough IMO, I did it in a poorly lit garage. I'm not disapointed with the color, I am just overly partial to granite pearl because that was my first car.

Fix the auto tranny, Take out the Aftermarket parts, put it back to stock.. Then put your parts on the new car, then you'll have stock parts which you can then sell. I'm sure there's alot of people looking for stock headlights, etc... So you'll make a good amount doing that

I hear you on the color, and I'd love to see some before and after shots. I know exactly what you're talking about. I polished my car in a very poorly lit garage...terrible actually. I will be using Optimum Compound this summer I think, but I have time to think about it. I'll be looking forward to a post in the detailing forum with the transformation of your new car. The paint looked dead...can't wait to see it.

I made the same thread in the detailing section and an autopia.org, I didnt have any better pics at the time because it was night, there are more before shots which I can load up some time for you. Here is my gf's car which I cleaned up a lot this past spring, same process and products, I"m a big fan of wolfgang.
