Stupid Question from an OG member

I know this is going to sound really stupid but I have to ask

Will a 96 factory exhaust fit on a 97-98 and will a 97-98 budget y-pipe fit on a 96. I have done some searching and cant find the info I am looking for. Please help!!

Y pipe fits,

97-99 have an O2 bung in the piping right after the cat, but the 96/96 have the O2 bung in the CAT itself. And yes a 96 exhaust will be tucked in a bit on 97+. Check my sig pic, it's an HKS for 95-96 models..

95-96 has an o2 in the cat.... 97-99 have the o2 in the "bent" pipe inbetween the cat and the b-pipe.
I had a 97-99 catback on my car, it fit fine, I just couldn't use my o2 sensor.
This is the rear heated o2 sensor, not the two main ones... so its really nothing to worry about.....

ok so you are saying that if I were to install a 96 factory exhaust on a 97-98 that car would have no problems. And I could install the 97-98 exhaust onto my car and I would have no problems?

blackmaxx96 and i actually did this (his aftermarket 96 onto my 98 and my factory 98 onto his 96) The 96 recieving the 98 exhaust will need something to plug the bung behind the cat for the 3rd O2 sensor bc 96s only have 2. For the 98 recieving the 96 you will need to have a O2 bung welded in behind the cat for the 98s 3rd O2 sensor and then something to plug the extra O2 bung in the 96 cat. The reason you cant stick the 3rd 98 O2 sensor into the bung in the 96 cat is bc they are different sizes. We just used spark plugs to plug the holes. hope this helps

Ok thats cool, so then what kind of spark plug did you use, just a standard maxima plug IM guessing...and when you say behind the cat do you mean to the rear of the car or twoard the front, I am assuming that you mean toward the back of the car

Towards the back of the car, between the cat and resonator.
