Engine sounds like it will blow up

I installed an apexi air intake (not cold air) and now my engine sounds like it is going to blow up. It is definately much louder than the stock, but it just doesn't sound right. This is the only thing done to my 2002 SE. After about a month it blew my MAF and I installed a 2001 with the mod and reset the ECU. From a start it is okay, but punching it from a cruise makes it sound like the engine is going to blow up? I'm afraid to take it over 5500 rpm. any one else have this?

Any intake will make the engine significantly louder. If you do not like the noise, simply remove it.

Thats what it is supposed to do. I think it might be wise to research the products you are buying beforehand to make sure you know what you are getting into.

you are complaining about the best part of an intake?

and the sound is actually the only thing an intake will give you

just like the guy who complains about supercharger whine, and asks the dealer to remove the blower, 2 days after purchasing an 03 cobra.

rofl.

besides, if youve never heard an engine blow up, you shouldnt be comparing sounds to figments of your imagination...

Keep in mind that the same holds true of exhaust systems. It makes it louder but that's about it unless you have ported the heads for more flow.

nfisher50- this is totally normal...vq35's with intakes sound very loud from 6,000 RPMs and up...rest assure your motor will not blow..thats assuming if you've kept up with your scheduled maintenance...

I remember doing a 5th gear pull to almost redline in my 6spd....my tach needle was well into 6k RPMs...now thats LOUD!

Its SUPPOSED to make that noise, thats the only real advantage of having an intake is the cool sound. As far as that whistiling noise goes, check your tubing and connections to make sure there isint a leak.
