will aftermarket springs damage front struts?

I want to get aftermarket springs for only the front (for now) to get rid of the SUV look on my 2k2. I saw a max at the last meet setup like this and liked it. Will it blow out the stock (SE) front struts from a 1.3 inch drop approx? i thought only the rears will blow easily. Thanks in advance.

I think most people here will urge you to replace the entire setup, not just springs. I got the H&Rs riding on the Illuminas and I don't think I'd want it any other way in hindsight. Personally, I'd save the money you want to spend on springs now and then accrue another ~$400 (or I guess 200 if you just want to do the front) and rock some aftermarket struts too. I got some on eBay for something like 425 for all four.

id say wait and save. a little more than a great set of spring n struts u could get decent coilovers, like k-sport or d2s

it feels ok.. but because I couldn't get one screw out in the rear well I decided to leave like that for the moment. I will change it soon but I will have to take it to a shop so they can remove the bolt with an inpact gun.

this has been answered many times (HINT: SEARCH).

YES - lowering springs on stock struts WILL blow out the struts sooner. They are not designed for the load.

i've been wanting to lower just the front of my car also. I'm fine with the back but the front looks like it has a much bigger gap. Lontar1 do you have everything stock in the rear with just maxspeed and iluminas in the front? how do you like it?

I wouldn't put D2s on my car if someone gave them to me for free....POS squeaking junk.

don't listen to the coilover ******....a spring/strut combo will give better ride and just as good handling in daily driving applications, plus less problems and more choice....

everything is stock in the rear, no changes yet. I love the illuminas and Maxspeeds nice ride... even with the G rims nothing harsh on the road....

a 1.3 in drop would come from eibachs, which from what i've heard aren't the springs that would offer the "close to stock" ride comfort. i would go with maxspeeds for the front drop which is approx 1.4 or h&r.

I have maxspeeds. A) you will blow your struts... eventually. In other words, if you only have the cash to buy springs for now, but come tax time you know you can get struts, might as well do it. B) the ride comfort on maxspeeds is about the same as stock. I'd recommend them. C) nobody at work has noticed my drop. This is good because I work at a very conservative company. The maxspeeds drop isn't too extream. Once on, the car looks basically like it should have when it came from the factory.

I know it is a tad off topic, but you opened up the question with the whole "I work at a conservative company"... who really gives a rats? I mean (for them, not you)... they can't discriminate your ride!
