Ehh...dying fuse? Dashboard flickered when starting car.

I got in my car 2 hours ago, turned the key to allow the fuel pump to activate, everything lit up...except the speedometer on the dashboard (RPM, gas gauge, etc. was fine). Uhh...wtf. Then I started the car and the speedo was still dead, and then it flickered on. WTF? Do I need to replace a fuse?

I highly dout it is a fuse. Maybe something came loose. A connector, or maybe even a solder connection inside the cluster. Does it happen everytime?

Its not a fuse. it is the bulb that lights up the gauges. same thing happened to me. take the cluster out of the dash, take out the light bulb, clean the contacts, and put the light back in. that will fix your problem unless the bulb is on its way out... then you jsut need a new bulb. G/l

Kev: First time I noticed it yesterday. We'll see if it happens again tonight.

SilverMax: Wonderful. This isn't something I could do myself, that's for sure.

you can do it with all the doors closed. if memory serves me right you need to remove...

1) lower panel below steering wheel. that's 2 screws
2) this exposes screws holding gauge panel in.
3) remove black covers around steering wheel. 2 screws. only reason you want to do this is because it's easier to remove the gauge panel with those pieces off
4) lower steering wheel
5) remove screws holding in gauge panel. pull out.
6) unplug harnesses from behind.
7) done...should take you about 15-20 minutes to do this.

note: do not turn on car while doing this. you will get a CEL. it'll eventually go away on it's own, but it WILL turn on if you turn car on while harnesses are unplugged.

If you want to drive down to Rhode island, I can help you. I have done it a million time before, it is very easy. Or if you need me to walk you though it, let me know.
