I just realized today when pulling the gauge cluster out of my parts car that it had a service engine soon light.I have never seen a maxima cluster with one. I have owned about 10 different clusters and they all had the check engine light with the engine.
So i'm curious how many people have the service engine soon and what year and model do you have?

As I recall I have the "service engine soon" or as I know it "the orange bastard"

whoa ive never relized this but my 95 and 97 have the picture of the engine one and my 99 SE automatic had the text saying: service engine soon light insted of the picture. I honestly never noticed that until now, thats somthing cool to figure out what models had that. I like this thread.

1999 ES (auto) - SES light

I've always wondered which Maximas have which. Fortunately my light has only come on once so far! As I recall its just the text "Service Engine Soon". Can't remember what my 98 GLE had...I don't think it ever turned on.

97 GLE - SES for as much as I know, I can't just readily go out and check the car when I'm here...

Wow, didn't know that there was a CEL light on Maximas because I have the SES light.

 

I have SES ~ I was flamed when I first got on the forums and asked what the difference was because before the stickies didn't mention anything about SES I thought they might be different lights or I was on a different planet.

98-99 have only ses
and 97 can have either

 

Maybe it changed part way through 97? The earlier manufactured Maximas have the CEL and the later ones have SES?

 

CEL is WAY cooler...

The light on my BMW says "SELL ME SOON".
The light on my Maxima never comes on.
I do believe it says Service Engine Soon.

 

I've got a 98 with SES, can't say they are any less annoying, regarless of actual wording.
