Went To Have My Snow Tires Put On And Had A Huge Disappointing Surprise

When I had my 97 I30t I bought 15" snow tires and some cheap Infiniti wheels off of ebay. Well last winter I sold that car and bought an 02 Max and I assumed the 15" wheels would fit and I would still be able to use my snows.

So yesterday I go to get the snows put on and the guy comes to me and says "They don't fit cause the brakes are to large." I was like WTF!!!! I was totally in shock. I paid $400 for these snow tires and only used them for a total of 3 months. Please no flaming I'm already pissed enough.

The only bright side is that I know a guy who has a 99 Max that he has 16" snows for. He said he might be interested in trading me cause the 15" wheels will definitely fit on his car (plus he'd be making out in the deal cause his snows were used for 2 winters and mine were only used for 3 months). I don't know how serious he is about trading but before I press the issue I need to know will the 16" wheels fit on my 02 Max?

If it makes you feel any better, I have to use 17" wheels and snow tires (just put them on today), since I have the 6th gen rotor/calipers on my 5th gen.....Even 16's won't clear them

If the wheels are cheap anyways.. The tires won't fit because the rotors are to big.....So I am assumming the rim is the problem??
..Why not swap the tires over?

I have a bad habit of heading INTO the moutains of West Virginia during snowstorms to go skiing. Several times I have been the only non-4WD/AWD car in the parking lot. The Blizzak LM22 are not really a pure deep-snow tire, they are more of an all-around winter tire....good in snow, rain, dry, and general handling, and V-rated for long-distance highway trips in the winter, where snow/ice/slush might be encountered (esp. when I go up to NY)

Damn that sucks they're brand new, but maybe you'll get a good chunk of what you paid back if you sell them...Now's a good time to pawn them off and try to get some 16's. Maybe there's an org member sick of getting stuck in the snow.

Just put on my 15" 4th Gen SawBlades with 215-60-15 Blizzak WS-50s and I am eaggerly awaiting snow ! Last winter I used my summer wheels with 235-45-17 WS-50s but only in the front and traction was great, but since I kept some cheap tires in the rear- summers, they back end was always a bit slippery. I also put back on the stock suspension and put my JIC FLTA2 coilovers away for winter, funny thing is I measured it before and after OEM suspension and my front end was 4" lower. Car handles like **** but it rides smooth again, and doesn't rattle my interior away No pics of my setup, I call it the Maxfinder.

What year were brake rotors upgraded? I know someone who has a 2000 GLE, will 15" wheels fit on that car or were the brakes upgraded in 2000?

You can fit the 15s. I know someone with a 6spd 03 and he has 15'' drag radials on his front. He had to do a slight change to his brakes, but he fit them on. The change has something to do with the caliper, afaik.

My 01 GXE came with 15" steel wheels from the factory- so YES you can put 15" wheels on any 00-01 Maxima, best bet is to use eighter 02-06 Altima wheels which can be had cheap, or get some used 4th gen wheels. I am sporting SawBlades off a 4th gen, they are 15" and very light at it too. If you are going to get winter only tires- make sure to get something narrow, as wide tires don't do as well in the snow.
