Gas smell in car only when heater or defroster is turned on!!! Help
Maxima smells of gasoline but only when the heater is turned on. There is no visible gas leaking as this would make it smell all the time. It really smells when it is very cold outside. Otherwise. no smell. This is baffling. Anyone had this problem on a 95. Thanks.
yep, had that. check the fuel hoses just behind the timing cover, i'm talking about the ones just at the end of the passenger side of the intake. usually they seep gas then dry up from the heat underhood, leaving the odor to be sucked in when you turn on the blower. so before your first start up of the day, pop the hood and look around, then with the hood still up, start the car and recheck. you'll probably spot the culprit. tighten the clamps or replace the hose & clamps.
had the same problem past winter in Januray it was the fuel hoses nitromax is talking about. The best part about this problem was I got to drive down the highway with my windows open (so i don't die from the smell) in 30 degree New York City weather and got hit with traffic on the way there.
