For those of you with an RSTB...

I know it's been said many times that an RSTB does almost nothing in our 4th gens. But I want to ask those who actually have them - what is it that you actually DO feel with an RSTB in 4th gen? I've heard "it's noticeable on long sweeping turns" and "it's only useful when auto-xing," but what does this actually mean?? What difference is made? Thanks I appreciate your help!

A while back I tried it with and without. I honestly couldn't feel the difference in sweepers or slaloms. I also know boxing in the front & rear suspension is good and the RSTB has no downsides. I keep it on.

Thanks for your input and the link to that thread. You also helped me out months ago with questions I had about your ebay rsb so thanks again Gathering from what I've read over time about the 4th gen rstb it sounds like it would not be noticeable during normal driving including slow cornering, and that the only time it would be noticeable - yet mildly - is high speed cornering like when on a highway. I have a Stillen rsb on the "softest" setting so i'll try the tighter setting and see how I like that. Then I can decide whether I want to spend extra $$ on the minor "tweak" an rstb would provide. Thanks again!

"For good handling the most important characteristic of the frame is torsional stiffness. Twisting of the frame modifies the lateral weight distribution between the front and rear suspensions. On production cars the body can be used to stiffen the frame."* This is where the FSTB and RSTB come into play. Since 4th gens don't have fully triangulated frames the Tower Bars add stiffness. This is very noticeable with the FSTB when turning hard. As for the RSTB the added stiffness will help to keep the rear frame
from twisting under heavy load thus helping to maintain the proper geometry of the rear suspension. The RSB won't turn your car into a street monster but it will improve handling under heavy loads. I'm no expert though. For a lengthly and detailed explanation from an expert see: How To Make Your Car Handle, *Fred Puhn, H.P. Books, isbn 0912656468. Drive safely now...

well i mean dont buy a stillen bar unless you have the cash and want some bling.
im not sure if you know this but if you combine the front bar with the rear mounts from a b14 you have a $45 bar off ebay.

I have the Courtesy RSTB - I bought it by accident when I wanted to buy a FSTB.

I cannot tell the difference with either one installed or removed. The RSTB is a waste of money IMO.

So does that mean you'd be interested in selling it?

The 4th gen Maxima's came with a Rear Beam axle. So wouldnt a RSTB be kind of pointless.

Good point, maybe because the struts point in towards the car at the top a little it makes some difference?

the beam has nothing to do with chassis stiffness or torsional rigidity. you can never have a too stiff chassis.

Ok, I was thinking of suspension geometry instead of chassis stiffness.

That's what I thought too. I've seen this written a couple of other places too- that because of the beam axle & because of the greater structural bracing in the trunk, an rstb is less effective in our cars. I can see where the latter comes in but don't understand how the former (beam axle) would make an rstb ineffective.

20 bucks on fleabay, buy the sentra B14 front and rear set, use the front bar and the rear brackets, throw the rest away. Fits perfect, cheapest RSTB around. I found this out somewhere on the org.

Can someone give me the exact ebay links to these two sentra bars that I need to make a 4th gen rstb? Thanks

all it does is bring together the chassis so it doesnt flex so much. you wont really feel it. i didnt feel mine but i love the way the stillen bar looks in my trunk. :big grin:

When you say you don't feel it, you never feel/notice it?
