Should i do it?
Should i do it?
Well, anyone who knows me, or has read my signature knows that i am not exactly a huge fan of automatic trannys, ive considered swapping but it sure seems expensive and like alot of down time. Anyway, ive found a 1998 infiniti I30, green with tan lether interior, basically my exact car, except it only has 60k instead of my 80k, and it has a 5 speed, its a 98 I30T so im assuming its also VLSD. anyway its from the exact same place where i got my car originally, so im wondering if the guy might be interested in letting me trade mine in on that one, with a few $$ going his way of course. Also i would keep all my mods, Speakers, subs, head unit, cefiros, CAI, all that crap.
my only real concerns are the following, I know that my car is in perfect condition, not only mechanically, but after a minor accident over the summer my insurance decided to give me a nice new hood and bumper, the other car likely isnt in that condition. also, i might be looking at an old porsche 944 in the spring/summer or something, reguardless of what i do here.
What would u guys do?

If you just got all the new body pieces with new paint I would definitly piece your own setup together and do the swap. Its not worth it to lose a vehicle that your confident with not only mechanically, but visually also, just because your getting a 5spd.
But if your a punk 18 year old (cough) who goes out every Friday/Saturday and street races then it might be a better idea.

Good suggestions guys, keep em coming
I owned a 1999 Porsche Boxster before the Max.
After 3 oil changes, you will be quick to learn just how ungodly expensive they are to maintain.
There is a reason that only doctor/lawyer types drive Porsches. You'll soon learn this too.

in response to "why dont i make up my own mind"-i will but if u guys have any input id like to hear it
Depending on the price difference, I'd say go for it. A 5MT plus a VLSD can't be beat. I'd say it really depends on the differences between the exterior as you stated, and the price difference, but after reading your sig for awhile now, I think you would find yourself giving up a little dough to find that 5 speed that you've wanted. I'd get it.

Actually, the 944's are still pretty bad, when it comes to maintenence that is. I looked into it a bit because I was considering it as a project. Timing belt needs to be replaced every 30k miles and if it hasn't had a complete head job, that's a given too. Anything past 80k miles should be taken in for a engine overhaul if it hasn't been done yet. All expensive. You can grab an old 944 for under 5k, but you'll spend that much or close to it, bringing it back to top condition.

I wouldn't have purchased my maxima had it not had a manual. Thats just me though, VLSD and 5spd would be great. I would go for it and keep your mods you have and swap them. Why not have a little fun in this thing and in a 944?

I knew about some of that, ill have to read more into the rest, thanks
Well things have just changed a little, the 98 I30T 5speed is not a 5 speed, but a mis-print.
Anyway, there is a 96 I30T, again green, with BBS wheels, 140k, and it appears to be in good condition in the photos in my area, owner wants 4500.
My car should fetch $7.5+
And i could get a 944 for 3-6, in pretty good condition, i gotta look more into these things thou
