Hey, what's happening Maxima owners? I have a 90 Maxima SE 5sp & whenever I accelerate in 1st gear or in reverse I hear this whinning noise. I have no clue what makes this noise as i accelerate, so anyone wanna take a shot at this noise and help me out here? I posted this same message about 2 days ago but got only 2 responses. So please help me out so I can determine what that terrible noise is......

"whining noise" is not a good enough description to get a good answer. But from the limited information, it sounds like the noise is coming from the transmission. You could try changing the tranny fluid to a good quality synthetic. Ie.. Redline/Amsoil/Mobil 1 etc...

Ok I think I've got your answer. It could be a multitude of things, but let me share my experience and you can go from there. The whining noise in reverse is something you can do nothing about, if you listen to practically ANY car in reverse, auto or manual, you'll here the whining noise. Now if it's really loud in 1st gear then it's your synchronisers in your tranny going out and that costs a pretty penny to replace. I had those replaced as well as my 1st and 2nd gear. Trust me I know all the pains of paying for tranny repairs. If the noise is not that loud then that's normal cause mine makes a low whinig noise in 1st.
