I need help guys!!!!!

I got a decision to make. I love Maximas and am in the market to buy. I've looked at a 94 Se that has 154k miles, black leather, sunroof, Bose system, just about all the goodies. Excellent condition inside. But it needs a new set of brakes and when I test drove it a felt a little slugish and kind of shifted hard when it was a little cold. I supose to take it to a Mechanic to have them take a look at it next week. The guy is asking $3000 for it.
or
I found a 95 Maxima with 163K miles, its a GXE with no options, but it performs great. The body and interior could use som tlc. This ones going for $3850.

Both of them are great prices, but I don't know what I should do. Is that to many miles on both of them??? I like the body on the 95 more but it does have more miles and less options. What should I do?? Need opinions...........

My opinion you go with the 95. The 95-96 have more spunk then the newer 97-99's.

Go for the fully loaded 94. For arguments sake its going to perform nearly the same as the 95+ (http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=167038) and you are going to get better build quality and ride.
The hard shifting when cold is nothing to worry about unless it still does it after it has been warmed up.

Do you think I'm asking for trouble with the mileage?

That's not the only person you've been running from!

Can't have to many miles though, if the engine is clean and well-maintained, it will run just as strong as when it did new.

There is no doubt the Maxima engines will last a long time IF they are taken care of. I know a guy in town that has around 240,000 miles on his 3rd gen.

As long as the car was kept up to date with service you should not have any problems. Just make sure you have your mechanic give it a good look over and pay special attention to certain trouble spots such as the tranny, exhaust studs, and VTC's. If the car is in good shape $3000 sounds like a very reasonable offer.

That's what I'm planning on doing on the 94, but the 95 is real tempting. But the guy with the 95 has a small car lot at his house and doesn't allow his cars to be taken to mechanics. He said I can bring my mechanic out to the car, but I don't have a mechanic. Do you know if mechanics will actually come out an check out a car??? I don't think so and I know it sounds like a stupid question. But I need to know something. Oh, and the passenger window on the 94 is D.O.A. how much will that set me back $ ??? 94 or 95????

A '95 GXE is significantly lighter then a '94 SE. It will have alot more spunk off the line and on the low end. The 95-99 engines are aluminum block and heads, while the 94- are iron block/aluminum heads. That alone saves the '95 ~70lbs. The VQ (95-99 engine) also has won tons of praise and has been on Wards ton ten engines since 1995.

The 3rd Gen guys get extremely bitter when this subject arises, you just gotta get used to them.

The broken window is probably due to the window regulator. It is a cheap and easy fix, so dont sweat that.

If you are going to be buying a car and you are not "allowed" to take it to a mechanic of your choice then thats not the kind of place you want to be buying a car from. That sounds very shady...

Low end on any Auto will dog. It's top end where the VE shines....and your VQ doesn't

With generation Bias aside , the 94 he wants to buy is a far better deal.
