So I just spend 3 hours fixing my car in 21 degree weather

Damn alternator decided to go on me and I have a mess of things to do this weekend so I had no choice but to swap in an Autozone special until I can have my Can-Am alt rebuilt. I've figured that I've been putting tons of miles on my car commuting, it was bound to happen.

The temp outside was 21 and by freakin toes were killing me. I'm going to hook my wife up with a nice gift seeing as she put the kids to bed and came outside to help me with the replacement. That's the first time she's ever done something like that. Seeing as how I live in the woods and don't have a garage, she pulled the Honda over to give me some like and we jumped inside for heat when we took a break to warm the ole feets.

Well I'm glad it's over, I'm going to bed.

Yea, I spent a collective two days on my back under my mom's dakota to replace her starter in the ~30* weather around here a few weeks ago.

Sucked.

Man, I have to do something similar - clean my IACV valve and TB - rpm's dropping off and making the battery light come on. I might just wait until Sunday as its supposed to warm up to 40 something. The things we do...

Deezo, your wife rocks man! Most women in my life would just look out the window and go like "isn't it cold out?"

Deezo FIXING his car I get, there's no getting around it, I was laying on a snowy wet ground to change my oil last weekend after changing my plugs and fuel filter, because it was hestitating and overdue. I have been up at 5:30 in morning putting my rear valve cover back on and putting everything together to go to work.

but....AUDIO INSTALLS??? In my opinion that can wait until it's daytime and warmer or until I can borrow someone's garage space.

Kudos to your wifey man! I feel your pain on the cold. I just started up a mobile mechanic business so I am out in the weather all the time. This will be the first winter of the business and I am not looking forward to it.

How the hell is that possible? YOu either didn't wash it with water or it wasn't below 32 degrees.

Sucks to hear, unfortunately it was necessary. Nice to see your wife help. Those that ask about the long time should change the alternator in the same weather at night........

man i must of took my alt out so many times do to misalignment issues with the s/c. i found the quickest way for me was to drop the a/c then it takes 10 mins from that point. i also got rid of that funny clamp that holds the long bolt to the alt and replaced it with a reg nut so all i have to do is remove the nut from the front and pull the screw out 1-2-3. deezo that highpower alt gave up already dang that bites.

You changing your oil filter like that too? I guess, it's quicker for me to just lay down, drain the oil, throw the strap wrench around the filter and then just put everything back together.

I have a tough time working on these cars because I have big hands. I'm investing in an air compressor. I'm done with trying to get my arms into tight spaces.

Yeah, now I'm thinking of just selling it and just keep replacing the Duralast because it has a lifetime warranty. I think the Can Am had enough because of the high revving with the VI when I had the ECU in my car. I drive crazy miles per week though and it probably was time.

I've changed alternators our 3 times prior. Most of the time wasted is trying to position my hands with the ratchet to get the bolts off.

if u dont have an aftermarket y pipe it makes things 100 times harder because of the precats being in the way.

thats why i drop the a/c and put a reg nut in front its a biatch trying to turn that screw from the back , once you drop the a/c its right there much easier. and i also have the autozone alt and im pushing 1,500 watts with no problems yet at 14.7 volts.
