Ok so i want to get some reverse gauges like some of you have... and i have been trying to figure out whats involved in installing them.... when putting them on do u have to take the needles and stuff off? i mean what exactly do u have to do it install them? anyone have a write up? thanks

No you dont take off the needles, you slide them under them. Its one of the easiest things you can do but if you absolutely need a write up there is one in the how tos.

 

yea i was looking at the write up and i dont understand... does the old black gauge face come off? or does the reverse ones go over the black gauges? i have a gxe if u didnt get that by now......

 

I did it on my Toyotas. I did not do it on my Maxima because the SE gauges are white from factory and they are nice . You don't have to take the needless off you just have to be carefull when sliding the indiglo gauge over. Then you put everything back together and take the black wire (ground) tampered it on one of the screws and take the red wire (positive) and rewire it into headlight relay switch and you are done enjoy the world of the indiglo colors.

 

No you leave the stock guages on and the new ones just slide over.

 

huh intersting.. hope the black doesnt through off the color or anything to that extent....

 

it wont throw off the color because the indiglo is above the black gauges. Just make sure you have some 3M double sided tape incase they stick up on ya

 

gauges are so simple to install. However, just like any mod you do, make sure you take your time and to not break anything. Like everyone else said, you take your gauge cluster out, open it up (it usually has little clips for the plastic covering), and then you put the gauges over the stock ones and over the needles. Be very careful not to play around with those needles cuz they may break, and you'll be reading FULL when you're really empty, lol and vice versa.

now that your gauges are installed onto the cluster, all you have to do is the wiring. Run them through your firewall and remember that BLACK is negative and RED is positve.

RED WIRE hooks onto a source that is always on when your parking lights are on..IE. your turn signal. Find the turn signal wire (should be RED), and tear a little bit of the plastic off of it to reveal the copper wiring, then just wrap the RED from the gauges and electric tape that off.

BLACK WIRE can go onto any ground source. IE. onto metal or under a bolt and washer.

Once you do that..just turn ur parking lights on and presto...you've got urself som indiglos. Hope that helps.

 

ok sweet thanks for the help one more question since i will be in there doing this.... anyway u can get non red/orange needles? like clear or something? because if i decide to not do that for a while i was going to though some blue lights for color and red and blue arnt very cool looking...

well in my car i can replace the bulbs for the needles with led's. not sure how it works on maximas. don't you have a dimmer control for your dash? you can try dimming it and it reduces the brightness of the needles as well.

 

its not that..... i want to replace the white lights with blue and the needles are redish color so blue will throw off the color and i wanted to know how hard it is to replace.... or where can u get some?

Are you saying you want to change your needle color? You need to take some sand paper or a nail file and sand off the red form the needle, then what ever color youw ant will show through there. Is that what you were asking?

 

ya for the most part thanks... i didnt know it just had a little red on it.. i havnt really taken a close look at them......

 

yes you can sand the color down then just get some led 194 bulbs and put them in the back for whatever color you choose. Another tip when installing I used in addition to 3M double sided tape is to take some sandpaper and sand off some of the bottom of the nub that that the needle is connected to. This way the nub wont get stuck on the new overlayed gauges

installing the reverse gauges are easy to install. just need to be patient.

 

how did you connect your indiglos?... looks like yours have some plugs on the ends of each gauge... does that plug into something?

it should plug in to an adaptor.

It's been a few years that I installed the indiglos. I think there's a transformer that I tucked behind the gauge cluster and the plus connect to it. Power is tapped off one of the hot leads. I "teed" off an existing power wire to feed the indiglos.

 

i noticed on your gauges that the fuel one is facing the wrong way compared to mine... do they have reversed ones? i totaly forgot to look at that when i have been shoping around....

 

That plug is part of the tach connection. That plug came with the car.

 

I really don't know culejoe. What I'd suggest is that you check carefully with the vendor. I bought my gauges off someone from eBay. I've found that if you ask detailed questions, you should get detailed answers in return. Have you bought yours already?

 

no not yet so im ok i just never thought that there were some cars with the fuel facing the other way.. never looked that close.

 

I realize this thread is referring to Indiglo gauges but can I just swap my current '97 I30t gauge cluster for a Maxima SE gauge cluster of the same year? -Sloppy

 

Just a heads up on the aftermarket gauge faces themselves. If you live somewhere where's extreme temperature changes from summer to winter then you could see bubbles form over time under the new guages. This is from the constant cooling and/or warming of your cabin.

Also some of the aftermaket kits have ballasts/transformers that can hum (high pitch squeal) when you turn them on. Sometimes this is due to a poor ground but most of the time it's because of cheap electronics.
