Nissan VQ On Ward's 10 Best, 12 Years Running

Nissan's VQ engine wins Ward's Ten Best AGAIN, for the 12th year in a row. It is the only engine to ever have achieved the award every year since the award's conception.

The only car the feature the VQ in every one of those years? Maxima.

Note: Forgive me if this is a repost, I searched using google (domain: foums.maxima.org) first.

For an encore, I think Nissan should graft 2 VQs together.

Good luck with the sunfire. Can't go wrong with a GM econobox

You do know that there are people here whose VQs are well into the 200K mile region. A lot of people with 100K+ are still running strong.

hahahaha, im obviously kidding dude, i love this engine, im thinking of keeping this car for a few hundred thousand miles provided the tranny doesnt go, i was just joking that i would scrap a VQ with ONLY 73000 miles (hardly broken in) for the crap 2.2 pushrod thats the base engine in the chevy S10 and sunfire.

120,000 here and still running smoother than ever.

I have an ad for the VQ in Automobile magazine sitting right here next to me, in fact.

VQ'S ARE THE BOMB!

But since we all drive or have driven Maximas/I30's/Cefiros etc. etc. here - we all know that.

My 1996 SE has 137,000miles on the clock and only a cracked right front CV boot, rear left brake light and little LED lights in the rear wing not working are the only things that have ever gone wrong - notice none have to do the engine...yeah!

4 EVER!

I wonder how they decided on the G35 6mt when the engine is in 80% of Nissan's lineup.

Off Topic a bit but is it just me but does the VQ35DE not sound as good under heavy acceleration as the VQ30DE it replaced?

BTW Nissan6, Freeway is spot on mate: SERIOUS SIGNATURE MATERIAL!

YOU DA BOMB! (Hate spelling words incorrectly...argh)

They obviously haven't looked into the long-term durability of the VQ35! Blowing oil in the maximas, blowin' engines in the Z's. I'm really not impressed with the 3.5. I might be the first person to downgrade his 5.5 gen to a 5.0 gen!

It sounds better IMO. You just need to have the right set-up.

Seriously dude?!

That's an eye opener big time. (Sorry admin for off-topic).

Personally would like to get the Tomei Racing 3.3litre engine stroker on my VQ30DE for more power and torque.

Anthunny you can install variable intake (MEVI and or 00VI) that will compensate for the 5,500rpm deadline (not redline) that VQ's are made stock with. They can boost you by up to 30bhp at the crank when you hit 5,000rpm.

I understand that Nissan is coming out with 07VI-T for the R35 GTR. That should cure any top end worries if we can mod it to our Maximas.

It is a pretty vague post mate.

Nmexmax - do you live on your computer? I post and you counter-post a minute later. And often it's to do this to my posts: LOL.

Just like the statement on how 5.5s with bolt-ons can barely get into the 13s?

shouldn't you be out in the parking lot adding oil to your car or something?

Look, don't get me wrong, I love the power of the VQ. I love the way it revs. I love the way it sounds. I love the way it keeps on going (just crossed the 140k mile marker on my 2003). I DON'T love the oil consumption.

AEBS kit? what's that? Do you mean the 4.3L stroker kit? What's the point? Everything I've read about it makes it sound like a really great way to waste 7k. I'll rebuild it with aftermarket rings, titanium valves and new seals everywhere. Then, just for kicks, I'll add 15 lbs of boost, a new Engine Management unit, and bigger injectors. After all that, I'll take my extra grand and go to the nearest strip club for the best three hours of my life!
