Spark plugs?

The max is 99 and has 40k. At idle, there have been random and very infrequent lobes that drop rpms very low (just recently). The old guy I bought the car from only changed the oil and air filter (all reciepts) during the initial ownership. Unsure whether to stick with the NGK V-Power or move up to the Iridium or platinum for the extra $. Apparently the normal V-Power are ok, but the Iridium are better and last longer. Supposedly the Iridium last longer than the more expensive and harder to find platinum NGK. Suggestions, experience? Also replacing fuel filter this week. Shouldn't need to do the PCV valve or anything else, should I? Thanks for any help.

hm... platinum should last you fine.
there are going to be others who will tell you to simply go with copper plugs. they all will work and all have do's and don'ts *edit: asl long as you stick with NGK's*. this is a bad thread you're posting. you should just simply go thru the sticky's up top before you come to post this. good luck fighting off flamers.

checked the stickies before hand. They did not answer my question or touch on the iridium plugs. The info I obtained came from a few nissan guys I know as well as the general info available for the different plugs. Looking for confirmation or input, thats all. It just seems to me at this point that the iridium plugs are the most logical choice.

Also, looking to purchase a 300zx fuel filter. Is there a specific year beyond the basic range i should look for? Are there any fitment issues with the larger filter? The link wouldn't come up, this is why I am asking. Thanks

The 300zx fuel filter should be from the 90-96 generation. Also I put a wire around it connected to the bracket because I was inconfident of the filter staying in place

NGK V-Power copper lasts 30K miles and costs 2 dollars each.
NGK Laser Platinum (OEM) lasts 60K miles and costs 10 dollars each.
Only get NGK. Do not get Bosch. Do not get anything else.

I'm running V-Power coppers in my car with 118k miles on the odometer. Works great. The only real difference is that the Platinums last longer. But I do my own maintenance, so changing them out every 30K doesn't bother me at all.

The only benefit with using the 300ZX fuel filter is that it supposedly lasts twice as long as the OEM Maxima fuel filter. You don't get any "performance" out of it.

PCV valve is cheap and simple to replace. I would do it.

I too have a 99. And I too get these drops in RPMs. Clean your TB. That helped quite a bit. It did not completely solve the issue but now the RPMs don't drop to like 350 - 400 like they used to. They only go down to 550 while in D at a stop light in heavy traffic. And oh. I just changed my plugs myself about 3 months ago at 62K. I got the OEM NGK at about $11.30 a pop.

You should have Plat's already in there, your choice NGK coppers more often or NGK Plats changed half as much. Clean your TB as also said, use TB cleaner, use the same cleaner to also clean out your IACV, that made a huge difference for me, but you have 1/4 of the mileage I do.

The plugs are probably fine as you should have the OEM platinum plugs in place. Leave the PCV valve alone as it will be good to go.

Change the fuel filter. Add a bottle of Chevron Techron/BG44K or Gumout Regane before the next oil change to clean the fuel system.
