My buddy met me out for lunch today. He drives a blue 00 Si with a AEM intake. We caught a light and revved up. I brought my rpms up to my normal 3300-3500rpms and launched. I jumped out a few feet then I started spinning like crazy. I was barely going anywhere at all and my rpms just keep climbing as I tried to feather the throttle. I had to completely let off until the rpms fell back to 3000 and the car hooked and then bogged. By then, my buddy was easily two cars ahead. We lined up again and I lowered my rpms to 2500 and slipped the clutch a bit more. Once I hit 4000rpms, the tires started spinning like mad and I had to feather it again. When I hit 2nd, I spun pretty good (not just a chirp). By 60mph I made up the distannce and past him.

This is frustrating. This is twice now. Last weekend, I race Russ's 2001 Max and pulled me off the line while I sat there and had to shift into 2nd at 20mph because of spin. Ever since adding the UDP, my car feels extremely strong. Problem is, I can't hook up now. I used to be able to launch at 4000 on the street with a quick clutch slip. Now I've got to launch lower, forcing me to out of the powerband for longer. I guess I will just have to slip the clutch more.

Anyone else experience this.

SprintMax-

Don't taunt until you've truely experinced it for yourself. I use to think the same thing about UDP. It's not like a night and day difference (no mod is unless it's NOS or a SC), but the power is clearly there. Some cars take to UDP pullies and some don't. SCC gained of 6 fwhp (9fwhp in the midrange) on their Sentra SE-R, but only gained 1 fwhp (4fwhp in the midrange) on their Sentra SE. MM&FFs have gained over 15rwhp with the 2 and 3 pulley sets on the 4.6 and 5.0 Mustang.

My thinking is that I want every bolton NA mod I can get (as long as it's not LOUD). I'm in this for every tenth and I want to keep my car NA. Both the SC and NOS are way too risky for a daily driver as far as I'm concerned.

Dave, I have my SC'ed Max as a daily driver. Been like this since it was installed last October. I haven't done any track time yet and the only problem I've had so far was a squealing drive belt during the winter. Other than that I've done the rare stop light take-offs. Still have my stock exhaust and its very quiet until you hit 2500rpm and the intake is loud.

have any of you guys tried launching at an even lower rpm? such as 2,000 rpm? i've had good realworld launches that way..it requires very little clutch slip and the tires hook up just right with slight chirping. this indicates the tires are at their traction limit, but not over it.

Dave B, I don't know what kind of tires you are running. If it's all season, time for some sticky tires. That or some light weight 17X8 with some wide *** 235 or even 245.

Yes, I use to do that last year. It's true, you usually don't spin much, but what happens is that you are far below peak torque and are actually bogging a bit. By launching at 2000rpms, my 60 foots were in the mid to upper 2.4 range. By launching at 3500rpms with more spin and some wheelhop I am getting upper 2.2s. That is the difference between running a 15.0-15.1 or a 14.7-14.8. I've noticed that if I don't hook up above 3000rpms, my 60 foots drop into the 2.3+ range. You've got to launch these cars hard.

done that but it takes the tach forever to hit redline. so far, my best take-offs are bringin it up to 4k rpms and riding the clutch, i get a lil more wheel spin but it seems to work.

I had no problem at the track a few weeks ago hooking up...I was launching at 2000-2500 rpms, and running 2.2 60's all day. GET SOME NEW TIRES!

These tires are new. Believe me, a 2000-2500 rpm lanch at my track wouldn't get you into the 14s nor a 2.2 60'. All tracks are different.

Russ-
We'll see how I do tonight at the track. If I do the same crap, I might have to retire

those little Si's are pretty quick... i raced my friends because he was talkin trash about how he could beat me cause i have an auto... i had him the whole race... off the line i took him, and he still couldnt pull on me i slowly pulled on him and by the end at about 85 where the 2 lanes merge to 1, he was right behind my back bumper... not bad for my auto because a friend of mine said his friend hit a 14.9 in an Si with just a CAI and this kid had a CAI also..
