check that you have the pipe on tight...the sound could be an exhaust leak...

and if that doesnt work, try some exahust wrap..

You can replace the flex with a 3ply one from eBay.

yeah, loose connections. are you using their testpipe, too? because i used their test pipe and experienced Bee's, but changing back to stock cat converter totally eliminated that problem.

then you'll have to wrap it up, but you'll still get a slight hint of the bee's. other than that, get a loud-azz exhaust to cover up the bee's sound, or turn up the radio, or stick some earplugs in your ears, or...patch it up anyway you can!

I have the same problem just never posted about it. It only happens when I rev to about 3k. Idle is fine. I just figured it was a leak somewhere just have gotten around to fixing it. I have sound clips of it if anyone wants to hear what it sounds like.

I thought I had bees in my first Budget Y, turns out it was a bad weld at the 'y' of the pipes. Budget crossshipped me a new Y and now it sounds mean!!!

I've had my y-pipe wrapped for a couple of years now. The header wrap greatly reduced the bee sound on my car. Just rewrapped it a couples months back, pipe looked good.

95 GLEMAXX, are you noticing power gains?

Also, Ajcool2, please post a link to your sound clip.

I'm consdering a Y-pipe and I'd like to know the benefit/risk.

Thanks.

Ok here is the link. Before anybody says anything I know the video sucks and its short. Its supposed to be much longer but it wont upload the whole video for some reason. You can really hear at the begining it sounds like a 1960's beetle or something. http://media.putfile.com/Anoyying-metallic-sound

It is resonance from the unequal length design.

A noticeable increase in power, no risk that I know of. Great bang for the buck mod, read the stickies for more info or this link (http://maxmods.dyndns.org/index.php?MaximaYpipes).

It means that the two y pieces are not the same length so they resonate sound. It is normal. BUT then again as everyone else and their sister has said, check to make sure the pipe is on tight and that your flex is good to minimize the effect.

my cattman is not louder then stock, no bees in a can. Heat wrap should help. Besides, w/o the heat shields, it would not be a bad idea anyway.

i really dont know if there are any gains yet...since it turns out my knock sensor is bad...will let ya know tho......

thanks for the advice guys

the shop that put it on checked all the bolts and they are all fine. he said that sound is actually fireballs going through youre exhaust pipe? sounds kinda crazy to me

he also said once the carbon builds up inside the y pipe that the sound will go away after a while, but we will see.

An equal length design will create a smoother sound (think RWD VQ35). The sound is normal among y-piped Maximas. When I had just the y-pipe with stock back it was not very pronounced at all. The car sounded like a stock 3rd gen in the lower rpms. Now that I have the Warpspeed muffler on there it is deeper and a tad more raspy but I still don't have bees.

God damn bees in the can posts. Your exhaust is not gonna sound the same with a y-pipe as it did stock nor is gonna sound like a mustang. Your gonna get a little odd noise here or there. The pipes are not equal length, thus the exhaust waves will hit each other. The whole bees in the can term started like 5-6 years ago and now anytime a member with a y-pipe gets a slightly odd noise they make a bees in the can post.

we really dont mean to be buttholes about it but there are hundreds of thread with the Bees in the Can problem...its int stickies and everything...its just gets annoying sometimes to see 4 of the same thread each by a different member...but anytimes u alter exhaust sound will change....if its beed in a can or a rumble at idle....we jsut ask to please check the Stickies if u can

Some people just call it "bees in the can" eventhough the sound is different just because they saw the terminology in the board. Can you describe the actual sound more instead of just rumbles? What is the sound difference between when its idling and at WOT?

yeah, only way around it is headers, someone must have got the pipes mixed up when they called the ypipe a ypipe, its should be called Bee-pipe and then the bpipe should be the WHYpipe, so you can ask yourself, Y does my exhaust sound like BEES IN A CAN ?

Or maybe thats why we call it a WHY pipe ? So we can wonder Y my exhaust sounds like bees in a can ?

My maxima sounded like a dump truck with a ypipe at cruising speeds, and was much worse than bees in a can at wot !

maybe try stock bpipe and muffler if you want to quiet it down and if you are running stock bpipe now then , no idea !

at least you have a faster max even with the buzz !
