Cottor Pin on Ball Joint, How tight?

The cottor pin on the bolt that holds the ball joint on is gone. Or maybe it was never put back when they got changed out. It came loose, the lower control arm was scraping the inside of my rotor.

From the looks on the other side it looks like I just tighten the bolt down far enough to get the cottor pin in there. Is that as far as I tighten it or is there something else that I need to do?
I plan on getting this right and then getting an allignment. So, I wanna make sure it is right so it will stay alligned.

On a side note,I also need to change my strut bearing where is the chaepest place for this? Coutesy has them for $27 a piece.

They want $45 for the strut bearing at Nissan and that was the only place (non-online) that had it in my area so I ended up regreasing the bearing.

The nut on the control arm ball joint should be torqued to 60 - 80 Ft/lbs.
Then put the cotter pin in to make sure it never backs off.

Thanks. I tightened it the other night but I didn't have a cottor pin. I will put it in later.

Fr33way. What type of grease did you use? On Motorvate it says you have to use a certain type of grease but it doesn't say what kind. On the strut bearing, do you just pry the two pieces apart and put grease on the inside?

My 1996 FSM says 46-56 lb-ft is spec for that nut.

Try PinnacleNissan.Com, I order all my Nissan parts from there, they usually have the cheapest price and at times, I get my local dealer to match their price. When I changed the struts on my car, I remembered changing the strut bearings. I'll have to look up my receipt and find out how much I paid for them.
