Oil on camshaft pos sensor...normal??

I've been having starting problems and removed the cam pos sensor and found oil on it. Could this be a problem?

Normal. The CmPS faces the interior of the timing chain case, which has oil splashing around. The sensor works by electromagnetic induction (or something like that) so the oil has no effect.

remove it and clean off the metal debris which could be altering the signal, resulting in your starting problems.

Metal debris?

Yeah, that shouldn't be there, that's for sure.

There's no metal on it but could oil have leaked inside the sensor causing it to short out.

no..theres a magnet on the end that senses the camshaft. Oil has no effect on it, its inside the motor
