Sport Compact Pro sponsorsip??? What do you guys think???

I got a call last night from one of the sport compact pro reps last night about the application I sent to them over a year ago. They said that they will offer me up tp $12,000 in partial sponsorships for my car. They said that they will cover 50% of all parts that I buy from their manufacterers up till their portion reaches $12,000. They have some pretty good manufacterers on their list like greddy, turbnetics, act, aem... They said that I woul need to attend 4 shows per yaer andput two of their vinyl decals on my car. They only thing that I would have to put up front is $79 to draw up a legal contract that they split with me ($158 for contract). They said that it is to draw up the legal document showing that I am advertising for them. I told the guy I would call him back because it seemed a little strange to me. What do you guys think?? One of my friends got a sponsorhip by them and he was not too thrilled but he never took advantage of any parts. Seems a little fishy to me.......

That organization isnt as good as it sounds. I went through it aswell, it a money grab. They make it sound like your sponsored when your actually just buying parts from them for a sale price. They never asked for any further info on my car, just for the $80. I could have no car at all and they never would have known. I didnt call them back, and they never called me. I was suppose to "race" for them, but they never even asked what i had done to the motor.

sounds alittle fishy.........

yup, i agree with this and the other statements. sponsorship at this point takes a lot of work, i dont know how hooked up your car is, but its rare that a real sponsorship will come to a car that is not already a car show winning car. there was a good long writeup on v6performance.net a while ago about getting sponsored, and it involved getting a portfolio together with pictures and information and contacts and references, as well as past awards and shows atteneded and showed at, etc, and then submitting it to various manufacturers or shops...GReddy, Borla, CustomMaxima, RedlineMax, etc...

For example, Irish44j is sponsored by redlinemax because of how often he is at autocross events and his knowledge of suspensions and things like that, so he is repping RedlineMax because his car is already set up for that, and he is at shows/events all the time. i dont know all the details, but you basically need to establish yourself first before real companies will sponsor you.

Just get out there at races (or shows if those are your bag) and meet people, and you will be able to get parts at wholesale prices without having to draw up contracts, pay scammers $80, put gay azz decals on your car, etc.

Yep you're basically giving up $80 of your hard earned money...don't do it!

You're better off sending out your own sponsorship proposal letters to companies or businesses that you are interested in. That's what I've done to prep for the 2006 car show season. I've been fortunate enough to get a handful of sponsors already.
