Wierd rattling noise...

I just noticed this yesterday, and again today. the rattling sound seems to be coming from the glove box area. the rattle comes and goes, but mainly over bumpy roads. i don't have anything in there that would rattle (only the nissan binder thingy and my insurance stuff).

didn't notice during the first week of driving the car, this is my 3rd week. any ideas where the sound is coming from?

nope, nothing in the door pockets. initially thought my wheel lock was rolling around but that wasn't the cause either. the sound seems to get louder with the glove box open.

Its American built now, so what else could you expect

But overall i think many of us that have had the Maxima have herd of some sort of ratteling that we dont know where its coming from. I did to when i first got my car, but now its over 8k in miles , and i dont hear it anymore, maybe im use to it, but for the most part i think its gone.

does it sound like a dull thud noise going over bumps? Kind of sounds like knocking on a door from far away....Because I had the same noise and it was my struts in the front that needed to be replaced.

how can it hit the windshield if it's pressed against the windshield?

it sounds like something is in my glove box area rattling around. i guess i can best describe the noise as the sound you make by shaking some dice in your hands (but not as loud).

hey guys w/ respect to unexpected noises.....
i rarely am outside my car when its running because the best place to be when the maxima is powered up is behind the wheel...but yesterday as i finished changing my oil and while the hood was up i noticed an odd noise ..it sounds like a servo jockying or maybe a solenoid opening and closing.....im wondering is that normal and if so it the drive by wire feeding fuel via solenoid ?? does anyone have any ideas.....?

Shot in the dark: Was it your A/C clutch clicking on and off?

I drove mine with the radio off, HVAC fan blower on 3 bars and the loudest noise I heard was the tires. The next loudest was the exhaust when the engine went over 2,500 RPM. Then the next loudest noise was the blower. Finally the air passing over the car at 50 mph. I didn't have any rattles yet, and I hit a few bumps in the road that should have found them. I really wonder what you have going on in there AscendantMax! I'm picky about rattles too. I'd install sound dampening material instantly if I heard a squeak today.

If I couldn't find the noise, I would try the old fashoin rattle finder: Lots of BASS!

I've had a ticking noise in the past which turned out to be the passenger seat belt buckle "tapping" against that luxurious plastic cover over the door pillar. If this is it just adjust the position of the buckle.

Im tellin you man, its probably your front struts that are bad man because I had the same sounding noise. It was my front struts that needed to be replaced. After that, the noise was gone.

Yes it is related to the 2004s but Im sure that 2005s may also have the same problems. But it definately sounds like the same problem and sounds that I had and its definately the front struts if this is the case. Just take it to the dealer and tell them you feel that the struts are possibly bad. Its under warranty so your fine anyways. I hated that noise and I am so happy its fixed. I love how tight it feels and sounds, no rattles whatsoever now.

I had a weird rattle in the glove box area of the dash myself since i bought the car six months ago! The dealer ended up saying (i'm sure

Well they did a flush of the whole coolant system saying it was a bubble in the coolant fluid that runs through a pipe near the back of the dash. It went away for a little while, but now it just sounds like a screw or something (i don't think it's in my head, the screw or otherwise), but i took the d@mn thing to the dealer and ofcourse, it was miraculously gone! The rattle only happens on sharp turns, doesn't matter which way i turn.

So... who knows...

if the noise is comming from outside/underneath the car, check exhaust brackets.

I'm a new guy on this forum and I can't post new threads just yet. But I have a question that is somewhat related to this problem. I've been hearing the same rattling noise but in my case its in the rear driver's side. It could be the struts. Dropped my ride off at the stealership but they couldn't find anything wrong. I drive my SE on rough streets of Brooklyn, NY and in New Jersey. I bought new Performance rear sway bar from Cattman which I think may eliminate the noise and of course will improve handling. Regardless, I can live with the noise but I definitely want to upgrade the handling, do you guys think by installing the sway bar on my Max will void the factory warranty?

I've been following this thread as I'm getting somewhat of a similar noise but it seem as though it's coming from the driver's side. I usually get it when I'm turning. Seems to be a slight clucking noise.

AscendentMax, did you ever find out what the noise was?

Bigmixx

Some have had a clicking noise from the steering wheel telescope mechanism.

Some have had a clicking noise from the door solenoid located by the gas pedal.

Other have had their CD or DVD player start banging away.

Others have had, myself included, a clicking noise for the A/C & vent selection switch which is located under the steering column by your right knee. Try tsb 05110.
