Your opinions and photos of actual skyline tails on maximas

I've seen a few 3rd, 4th, and 5th gens with actual skyline tails, I'm interested in seeing some more pics, I'm pretty sure a couple of you have some pics saved on there computer, I wanted to know your opinions, I'm thinking of doin this to my 4th gen, but debating on how hard it will be, and also what model I should go with r33 or r34 tails. If you got pics post them, just to get a general feel for them. Any year is cool. And also post your comments, I know alot of you dont agree, but just give your opinion.

I don't like taillights that didn't come on the car stock. Except red/clears. Body mods are gay 98.4% of the time.

Royal T nice rims and wheels - not a fan of the R34 taillights on a Max though but it's your car bro; she looks mean.

SARONAS Design make the nicest aftermarket body parts (eww...that sounds gross...) for the 4th Gens - Phase III front fenders look smooth. And check out Caesars Chariot for their Version I rear bumper...mean.

Back on topic...Skyline rears on a Max? No. (But that's just for my car - Nismo and Royal T you guys do whatever you want with yours...it'll look sweet.)

PS. A+ for effort is spot on mate just like the pretty one said.

Royal yours looked pretty good for what they were, it looks like an excellent job was done on them, I still just like stock taillights with red/clears though. Stock with tinted clear part is even better.

The only "ACTUAL" Skyline tails are on SKYLINES. If they're on a maxima, they are just MAXIMA tails that LOOK like the skyline ones. BTW, those on the max with the yellow wheels look pretty decent for what they are. The ones on the silver 5th gen look stupid. Nobody is going to mistake your maxima for a Skyline GTR....

why do people want their maximas to look like Skylines anyhow? aside from both being Nissans, the Maxima and Skyline have little to nothing in common (different body, different engine, different suspension, different drivetrain, etc etc)

Thanks every one for your nice comments.

Neal, If I had to do it all over I would have keep my Infiniti taillights and just smoked them. To much work to get them to look like it does now. But that is in the past, a new project awaits me.

The one I used were from an Skyline, I had to splice the wires and every thing. But I do know what you mean. During the time I did this I was all for custom work and wanted to be different, but as time goes on you change and now if I had to do it all over again I probably would not. But thanks for your nice comment.

Yeah, I can tell they were alot of work to do (props) and that they are the "real" ones....my comments were mostly in regard to the guys who buy the taillight overlays and call them "skyline tails" even though they really look more like they're from a Chevy Cobalt or Corvette.....

those are some of the things u put in your sig that u have done to your car. u are proud of those things and u did them because those are things u like to see or feel when u drive your car.

but u have g35 wheels when ur not a g35
u have lexus yellow fog when ur nothing like a lexus, not even the same company
u have different suspension upgrades to make ur car handle like a car that isnt a maxima

i dont see how u can knock someone for putting tails they like on a their own car but u put things on ur own car that dont normally belong on it.

That was a really dumb argument. None of those things make his maxima look like another car. With skyline tails I would assume you are trying to fool someone into believing you have a skyline.

I thought it was actually a very good arguement.
I seriously hope that no one would actually think that they can fool someone into thinking they have a skyline, when they really have a maxima, just by changing their tail lights.
And yes, the Lexus Yellow fogs do make him look like another car (at night, in your rearview mirror, he surely won't look like a maxima).

ok champ ur right....tail light can confuse u into thinking a maxima is another car but wheels and fogs that belong on another car dont confuse u?

im sorry for not seeing this how u do

ok, whoa there buddy, I'm not trying to confuse nobody into thinking my car is a skyline, please..... one day maybe one day I'll have the actual thing, but I love the tails, I love them, I think there dope.... I justwanted to see some examples of them on maximas, I think the painted altezza looks kinda of tacky ( I have them, and I really dont like the look anymore), painting the inside of the altezza to me, reminds me of a lexus IS300.

I am sorry, but if you haven't driven the r32 or r34 GTR then you can't belittle the car. The atezza AWD gives a different drivability to the skyline. You can't generalize if you have only driven GTS models

OT here but Rogertight IMO is spot on Irish.

GTR (and V-Spec) are a class above anything else Nissan has.

Considered buying a 220kW (295bhp) @ Wheels 1996 R33 GTS25T with a full 400R bodykit on it but it was just too cramped inside, being built for little Japanese rather than larger Europeans of Polynesians in my case. That's the only bad thing I can say about Skylines...

That and I hate the four-door ones and the badly modded ones...so 3 things.

best thread of 2006!

I would never spend the time or money to try to make my taillights anything MUCH more different from stock.
(aside agreeing w/ Neal) I modd'd the stock tails...I didnt change the product.

DTM mod looks best on light color maximas, red/clear looks best on dark color maximas. I have Pebble Beige, so i DTM'd my tails.

Let me FIRST point out that the title of this thread asked for "YOUR OPINIONS....OF ACTUAL SKYLINE TAILS ON MAXIMAS". Keep that in mind.....

here's how I can do that: it's a free world, and I'm entitled to any opinion I want to have, even if you don't like it. You're free to knock me for anything that is on my car that you don't like too! To answer your other well-thought-out concerns:

The G wheels I bought because they are 1. strong (OEM) and 2. good offset, better than our stock offset and 3. I like how they look "OEM" and not flashy. I am not trying to fool anyone into thinking I drive a G35 (I even have Nissan centercaps on the wheels, not Infiniti ones). I will also note that the wheels have "NISSAN" stamped on the back of them, not "INFINITI"

The "lexus yellow" thing is just for descriptive purposes, since someone else (Dr.Roy) coined that phrase for using the yellow capsules. Yellow fogs were around LONG before Lexus even existed (or Toyota, for that matter) - My 1970 Triumph has them (STOCK)...I'm not trying to look like a Lexus, people have put yellow bulbs in their fog lights FOREVER.

Not sure how suspension upgrads are being "poser" I did them for handling (safety), ride comfort, and autocross purposes. Maxima stock suspension is not all that great....if you like it, more power to you

but like I said....feel free to bash on my car - I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep over it

99.9% of the people here haven't ever driven an R32 or R34...and most probably have never even seen one in person...but they still drool over it. I didn't say it wasn't a great car, I just said that I don't spank off at night over it like some people here do....I certainly would like to have one, but for the same money there are other cars I'd be more interested in.

I wasn't saying that the car sucked or anything, just saying that it's not the most awesome car in the world....

Once again though, since when are people not allowed to have opinions around here? WTF....If I don't like the Skyline, it's a free country.

SORRY IF I INSULTED ANYONE'S WET DREAMS....wtf.....

FTW....if you go back and look, I complemented Royal_T for the good job and hard work on the tails. I simply stated that they weren't really my favorite look. He wansn't insulted by my comments, so I'm not sure why the rest of you are so upset.

(mental note: from now on, I'll make sure to say "Dude, that is kick-*** awesome" about any and every mod anyone does.....I wouldn't want to make any of the little girls here get upset that I don't like their body kit or their wheels or whatever)

You're right, I haven't driven the R32 or R24....I have driven the Stagea Autech, which, IIRC, uses the same AWD system of the GTR and the RB26 (R33?), though it has a different body style ...it was a very nice performing car all-around - plus I have driven the GTS Skyline - so I have more experience regarding the Skyline platform than alot of people here...

(I drove both of these in Australia at a ralleye event where they were in attendance from a local club and available for "test runs" --- in the parking tarmac, not the ralleye course --- so I wasn't able to really "push" them very hard under 50mph). Also driven a base-model Aussie-spec mid-80s Skyline as a rental car, which was about like driving a Honda Accord IMO.

but if you do, I will certainly make fun of you for having a 350Z dead pedal on your maxima and trying to fool everyone into thinking your car is a 350Z.....

btw, are you coming up for the DC auto show?

All that matters is that the Type Rrra owners don't know that.

I must be missing something, I didn't know anything about it. Searching for a thread now.......or you can be nice and just post it up for me. I don't want you to strain yourself or anything though so tread lightly.

DC forum...thread says something about "Car show and then strippers" or something to that effect. Though if you do come, you might have to leave Nikita at home

probably not worth driving up for....we'll have to have another DCMAX meet in the spring anyhow.

Found and posted. She'd kill me if I went to a strip club without her.

I'm down for another DC meet, and I'll roll with a GPS this year.

I like the Skyline tails on the Royal's car, it took some nice body work to make them fit, that's all I am going to say on the subject.

red clears will always be better than skyline tails on a maxima..in my honest opinion. It's not worth the time and effort.

WOW this went OT quick. not a big fan of skyline lights in general. they do look pretty good on that 5th gen though. whichever those are (33/34) i think would look better if you decide to do it. i had gs300 and wrx lights on my 3rd gen and wouldnt want it any other way. kept the 4th gen stock (red/clear) for practicality, and honestly i like them best. anything else i would want it to be red/clear anyway, so why cut the car up.
