2005 Altenator bad after 15K miles

Guys, my alternator went bad on my '05 after 15K miles. Was in the shop for a few days as the Service Man. said that they were on backorder with Nissan. Was able to locate one in Lousianna though and finally got it fixed after 4 days in the shop. What happened was my battery light and brake light started coming on and off and was intermittent. After 4 days of this it finally fried itself and stranded me in the middle of ****tycellville aka no cell service area. The service man. told me that they have seen this a lot on 6th gen Max's and Nissan is aware of it. Just wondering if any of you have had problems with your Altenator?

No problems with the alternator, but they did replace my battery for me. It went dead when I had only 8,000 miles on it.

Knock on wood, nothing wrong with alternator so far.

Maxima Altenator replacement campaign

There is a replacement campain according to Nissan Consumer Affairs. I called the number to get information and waited on hold for about 20 minutes and then just hung up. I don't know what model year this applies to. If you want to call them to see if your car is affected the number is 1-800-647-7261. Have your VIN number ready.

Same here... my battery went dead but at 35k, in the middle of rush hour traffic. They never said why or how though... after that I got my new terminals and I check the voltage every few days, just to be on the safe side.

Referring to post #1 did your battery and brake light flick on and off for a couple of minutes after you started your car after it set still all day or all night? Did this occur only if conditions were high humidity or rainy? I am curious if you could remember any details about the circumstances of the dash light flickering. I may have a similar problem with my '05 and would like to know what to be looking for to help the technician if this should become a problem.

Do you have a power amp? If you do, thats what did it...and what kills the battery too. Happened to my old car when I got a system, fried the alt.

Thats what capacitors are for and dual battery set ups and a good grounding source but a higher amperage alt. if available is a great start for the audiophile minded.02

I think my 06 may be having this same problem. Left my wife stranded at lunch time today. Went and jumped the battery off, cranked fine. Got home in the garage and shut it off. Tried restarting it and it freaked out. The seat and steering auto adjustment were jerky, lights flashing like crazy (nothing semetrical either) headlight on the drivers side flashing, passanger side parking light on, dash lights going nuts.... I disconected the battery to make it stop.

Thinking of going to the parts place to let them test the alt. and battery, they can check them both on the car. Any thoughts on doing that?
Still under warranty, i'd just like to know for sure, I Don't Trust Dealerships nor Do I Like Them!

Thanks for any help or info or input!

Fixed it!

Well that was a quick fix.
Tested to see if the battery was bad, it was. Called Nissan dealership, they pro rate batteries that are under warranty. 06 Max w/ 33k, New Nissan battery $89 + tax, no labor, - only 25% off the battery cost. $66.75 + tax.

Now get this, the Maximas only have a 550 CCA battery, that's nothing. So I wasn't about to pay $72 and change for a measly 550 CCA battery that would be doing the same thing this one did 2.5 years from now.
I bought a 750 CCA battery from a parts place, $81 + tax, 3 YEAR FREE REPLACEMENT!

Problem solved and more amps to prevent it again.
