I'll take the cat-back off your hands if it's just taking up space at your place

(sorry to hear about your plight)

Are you 100% sure that it is cali-spec? When I ordered my y-pipe last year I ran into the same thing. According to my VIN i have a cali-spec car but when I talked to Custom Enterprise they told me that some are not and it turns out mine isn't. The way to check is to look at the number of wire harnesses between the radiator and engine. If there are 4, then you have a cali-spec, if there are 2 then it is fed-spec. I lost the link that showed a picture of it, but if you want further clarification call CE.

The 4 harnesses correspond to 4 O2 sensors (just an FYI).

well i have all 4 sensors in front friggin@^%#@&#^%@&*$. wish i knew that when i bought it. but all well next time i nkow what to look for. all runs well right now no CEL or harsh idle. so ill let it be for now. now i have to hope warpspeed diddnt ship the fed spec pipe yet. if not ill have to mail it back on my penny. all well. so performance wise are these worse than the fed specs ? if i put on a true CAI so i need a special one or does that only apply to the exhaust.....ive got a CAI on the way its the same as the injen but its off ebay (no fender cutting it goes between engine and batt. thanks

Couldnt you get an exhaust manifold from like a 98 fed spec and replace the exhaust manifold with the precat on your car...and then use the fed spec y-pipe...is this possible guys? Just throwing out some ideas...

The reason why you could use a fed-spec y-pipe on your 97 cali-spec Maxima is because the y-pipes for the years between 95-98 are the same reguardless of emissions standards. The 99 calispec is very different from the rest of the y-pipes.

Don't feel too bad about it, I own a 99 Cali spec car, and I live in Maine, the furthest state(continental) away from California!! And the one with about the least concern about smog and emissions!

i took off the front precat off, and replaced it with a fed spec front manifold.

oh so that can be done, but if that were the case, what about the o2 sensor? does fed spec has an o2 plug?

BTW thanks for the fast feedback

the fed spec y pipe has two o2 bungs for the primary o2. I just added an O2 simulator to the two remaining downstream o2. Pretty easy conversion.
