a/c flow control vacuum or electrical?

I am having an air flow control problem, and need to know if the a/c control panel controls air flow electrically or by vacuum?
No matter what I have set on the a/c control panel, the air is blowing from both dash vents and floor vents.
The first indication I had that I had a/c problems is after hard acceleration, the a/c would blow warm air, then for no apparent reason it would cool again. I have pulled over at the time of this happening to see if I can hear the a/c clutch engage and it was, and after idleing a while, it would cool again......after this happening for a while, now I have a/c air directional flow contol problems along with the warm air problem. I think I need an a/c recharge, but I do not think this will help with the air directional flow problem...any ideas???
Thanks a million in advance, as I am trying to sell this car and want all systems functional. (it has some cosmetic problems) and I can not get anything for it with system problems on top of the cosmetic problems...(slight hail damage, I bought it that way tho.....) If anyone is intersted, I will let this car go cheap, and it has a budget Y pipe, a strut bar, stillin intake, sawblade rims, leather from a group purchase here with leather seats.com....and a NEW leather drivers seat (as the one fom leather seats.com had a bad spot, this new seat is still in the box!) I will leave an Alpine, head unit that plays MP3's as well as regular CD's, has a remote, and powered door to the CD drive. Sony Amp, and a sub in the trunk. The car really is not bad, just need some cosmetics and minor work. As I said I'll let it go cheap.....gotta pay for the Lexus, before you start flaming....I got a 97 LS400 for less than 12K and it only had 64K miles on it, I just could not turn it down. I am, however, a die hard Nissan person and would really rather have a G-35 2 door! It KILLS me I could not find one in my price range! ....but I took what was available....OH and the Max has approx. 145K on it. I might be willing to part out, on top of what is actually installed on the car, I have a bunch of 4th gen parts, under drive pully, new rotors, and pads, (front), spedo/tach head unit, factory Y pipe, factory intake system, lots of stuff! I am also open to trades for parts for my LS400.
Basically I need to pay for the Lexus, but will trade/sell parts too....
Thanks.
2Maximas.......(I still will have my 96 SE with 161K on it!!!!!!)

2maximas - long time no see..

The Maximas with climate control have motor controlled flow-control.. I'm not sure about the Max's with manual HVAC controls.

As for the air getting hot, I believe all new cars, our vintage maximas included shutdown the compressor during hard throttle - so that you get more power. As soon as you ease of the throttle, the compressor switches back on and you get cool air. I'm not sure how much the temperature variation is supposed to be - I mean you should get "warm" air, but it may not be as "cool"... if you are literally feeling warm air, then something else is going on.
