Stock Headunit question
Hey guys, I searched the FAQs and Audio/Video forums and couldn't fint the answer to my question.
I have a stock headunit/speakers on my 2003 SE (no sub) and it seems like the right side is playing louder than the left side, when I adjust the balance to Left-3 it seems like it's playing evenly but quiter. When I go all the way to Left-5, the left speakers are REALLY quiet, even when you turn the volume up to 20. I'm just wondering if this is a common problem because my dad's
03 SE does the same thing

That's funny, mine is louder on the right also, however, I have an aftermarket stereo system. In fact, I have the gains up on the left to compensate for the difference that I hear.
Could it be the layout of the speaker system and the fact that the woofer is semi covered by our bodies and also that tweeter is covered by the instrument cluster hump?

switch between CD and radio while the speakers are all the way to the left....if the CD is quieter, your HU may be starting to crap out.....there's a tsb for it...it cuts out on the left side, only while playing CDs...it sound's like a loose wire or something, but then when you put it on radio, it plays just fine...mine was so bad that all i could hear was a faint static from my left side at times unless i hit a big bump, in which case the speakers would turn back on...extremely common with the 5.5 gens

Just a thought.
Just a thought.
Yes, exactly my thought on this subject.
it's exactly what LAO2MAX said, there was some kind of weird kink in the HU of 5.5 gen's, and it makes the L channel cut out at times, happens to me all the time when i go over big bumps, ect. extremely annoying, just eject the CD and put it back in, and it will work again

do you think if i go to the dealer they can replace the HU considering I just bought a car a month ago and I have bumper-to-bumper warranty?
Probably not... considering the dealer's job is to bend you over and rape you.

bump: it seems that my dad's car has the problem that LA02MAX described. His radio plays fine, but CD is faint on the left.
My maxima however, the left front is quiet no matter what it's on CD, radio, or tape. When I put the balance and fader all the way to the rear and balanced evenly, the speakers play fine back there. When I bring it all the way to the front and balanced evenly, only the right side is playing. When I try to play through only left front, the sound is REALLY REALLY faint. So I was thinking maybe it's the speakers, but what are the chances of both the front left kicker and the tweeter blowing out. Plus, when the sound is faint, it's not staticky or distorted, so that rules out the blown speakers. So I guess it's either a loose wire or the HU itself. Any opinions/thoughts?
Also, how can you take the HU out to look if there's a loose wire.

Here is a how-to for HU removal.
