HELP! (fog rewire didnt work!!)

I tried the independant fog rewire that i found in the FAQ's this weekend and was displeased to find it did not work.
I cut the light green wire (w/ yellow stripe) from the fr fog lamp and attached it to the pale green wire on the wiper realy. When I turned the lights on the fogs didn't work at all and only my right headlight went on. What is that? Anyone have this problem? Do I need to cut a different wire or something? Someone help me out please!

Sounds like you did the rewire for 95-96 cars, I'm pretty sure it's different for 97-99 (edit- I'm wrong. haha). I used the writeup here and had no issues.

-edit- Well it looks like the wiring is the same, so not sure what the issue would be. I'll leave that to the electrical gurus.

I really wouldn't reccomend wiring it to your wipers. Wire it to the clearance lights or something instead.

Yeah i did use the 95-96 rewire writeup because i liked the independant idea. I dont want to wire the lights so they are on all the time with the highbeams. If you know the link to a forum with that info or anything please let me know.

of u wire it to ur wipers properly it will be fine....the correct way only uses allows for fogs to be on when ever the key is in the ACC position...if u do it to the wrong wire ur fogs will go off when u put ur wipers on...i have it so i can put my fogs on anytime and they still stay on when the wipers are on...there is no problem with them being wired that way since they are still relayed they jsut used a differnce source for power that allows them to be on whenever the car is

I'm aware of this. I only made the suggestion because most people don't know enough about wiring or our car's specific wiring to wire it PROPERLY that way.

I assume you're following this writeup: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=256440

I'm not really sure what the problem is. Did you try to revert back to stock to see if your LH head light turns on again?

oh yeah everything is back the way it was. it wasn't the headlight. it was like the power had been cut to that one headlight and the fogs. Nobody has this problem? What the hell? haha

I wired mine to the wiper relay, and it works great.. Havent had a problem, and I dont need to worry about leaving them on like if you were to wire it on the clearance light.

So nobody has had any problems with this mod besides me? I cut the green wire with the yellow stripe and attached it to the light green wire for the fogs. Did I do something wrong? Or is my car just f'd up?

only thing i can think of is that there are 2 wires coming from the foglight relay.. one gree with an orange stripe, the other green with a yellow stripe. I almost cut the green/orange one because it looked very close to yellow in the poor lighting that i had so check that you have the right wire for sure. other than that i dunno.

Did you go back and check your work? There really is nothing we can do for you - you say you cut the right wire...The only thing left to do is make sure everything's right by taking it apart.

What I was asking is if since you made this thread, did you go back to make sure that the mod was done exactly right? Or did you go back another time since you first did this? That's what I was asking. If you did that, and everything's correct, I can't really tell you anything. I've never, ever heard of this problem. You can try doing the other fog rewire where you tap into the bumper light for power instead. This isn't the totally independant one. Have you since disconnected everything? Or are you still riding around with one headlight?

Actually, it should work with 97-99 or at least just 99 because I just did the independent foglight wiring 2 days ago and it works great!!! Also, the reason I didn't wire them to the clearance lights is because I can just turn on the fogs without the corner lights...my suggestion...just go back and make sure you connected the wires correctly and see what happens...

I did check they wires after i did it...twice i believe. Maybe my its one of those things were you dont notice the mistake until you leave and come back. I did reattach everything and it all works perfectly when oem wired. I'm gonna go back and take a look to see if i did it wrong. I'm pretty sure i didnt but its worth a look right? I've heard no other negative comments from people so its gotta be me or the car. Ill take a look and post another thread.

That should be the main concern - making the car driveable (ie...both headlights working). Good to hear that it's not permanent. Stepping away for awhile is the best way - good luck when you try again.

OK guys.....checked again and let me spell it out again. Green wire (w/ yellow stripe) from frt fog relay was cut and was spliced into the light greenish wire in the wiper relay. I'm just about positive that was the way it said in the writeup and I know it didnt work before. What are the thoughts?!?!

Is it the same where your headlight doesn't work as well when you hook this up that way? Maybe you should try doing the fog light mod that isn't "independent", and runs off of the parking lights to see if that will work.
