Herd a super scary noise from my car this morning on start up
It was like 40 degrees this morning and i had not driven the car in 2 days. When i started up my car this morning it made a horrible knocking noise for about 5 seconds, the knocking noise was taking place when the car starts up and goes to high rpms, and as it was increasing in rpms on startup the noise got louder. Sounded like a 1990 honda with a horrible knocking noise. I have driven used cars my whole 5 years of driving life, and now i have a brand new car, well as of may 2005 and herd this noise and its scaring the **** out of me. The car starts up fine now, but as always there is a very faint knocking noise which i always had and i think is normal on the VQ engins. But this was very loud and sounded like the car was struggling. I have no idea what this may be and i hope you guys can help me out? i know the stealership wont help because i cant replicate the problem, but im thinking this may be a problem that worsens over time, and i rather dump the car before i have more problems. So please help orgers. Thanks in advance.
Don't know if it's the same problem, but I used to get the knocking on my brand new truck at start up for a second or two. I only drive it about once a week and the problem was all the motor oil was in the pan for parking too long, none in the cranck case or coating the pistons. I added some oil additive and no more knocks.
Don't sweat it, my 02' did that after it would sit for a couple days, and my 05' does it sometimes too. Just like maxmale said, don't rev it upon startup. It's due to the oil being all down in the pan and it being cold (like RHmax said). It's called a dry start, not enough oil in your valve train due to sitting. It stops once the oil is pumped throughout the engine. Maybe check how many miles are on your oil and that the recommended weight oil is being used.
To answer the question, i do not rev on start up, i was refering to how the car does a kinda rev up of its own. And thanks for the great responces sounds like not so big deal. Thanks and since i have not herd anything like that on startups. But ill bring it up at my next oil change with the stealership, thanks guys.
