Let me reiterate, this probably is a really weird question to ask on here, but it does pertain to something for my Maxima.
I'm in the market for a Y-pipe, and have been looking primarily to three possible places: used, Budget/LSS, and Warpspeed. Out of the two new choices, Budget looks to be the better deal as far as price goes. However, on Maxmods, it says that price plus shipping for a SS Y-pipe in USD was $193 ($250+15shipping CAD). Now when looking at USD-CAD currency conversion, it states that it would actually be around $230 shipped. What has caused this change in exchange rate? Is there anything going to happen soon about the exhange rate that would again drop the price before the next month?

 

that price for 193 was probably more like 2-3 years ago. Probably no one has updated this price change on maxmods. Don't know the exact cause for the current exchange but some people say the oil price play some part in it. I order a b pipe last week and it came out to about 240 with shipping. You can chek the exchange rate at X-Rates.com and its daily/monthly average but can't really tell if exchange will drop in the future it all depends on our economy

Here is a Canadian perspective. You can thank your illustrious president for the current Canadian dollar strength relative to the US dollar. The cost of fighting the war on terror is pushing your country to the brink of financial catastrophe. Canada is currently running a surplus and the province of Alberta, where the tar sands are, is debt free. The US twin deficits should be a grave concern for all Americans and the situation will get worse before it gets better.

Canada is currently benefiting from high commodity prices (oil, copper, aluminum, coal, copper, lead, zinc, and until recently, natural gas) which has resulted in a stronger dollar and a record high for the Toronto Stock Exchange. In fact the TSE is higher now than it was in September 2000 when Nortel was Cdn$120 share and accounted for one-third of the weighting of the TSE.

 

Thank you for your explaination! I was actually hoping one of our Canadian enthusiasts would shine some light on this. It seems to make sense how everythign happened, and I guess I'm just going to have to suck it up and buy from Budget/LSS during this time. Another question: I have also heard about certain fees for crossing the border or something (a charge that I interpreted to be added onto shipping). Is there anyway to see how much I will pay for this, or will this be built into the bill? I'm going to call budget tomorrow with my questions, too.

 

I don't think you will have to pay the 7% Goods & Services Tax payable in Canada. I am also not sure if you will have to pay duty & brokerage on importing the product into the US. I suspect not.

Check it out with Jody at Budget/LSS. She is a reasonable person to deal with. I got my y-pipe fairly quickly and I'm 3,000 plus miles away from the shop.

it depends how the package is shipped, i think with NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) there will be a duty-brokerage either way (to can/from can) @ the border, which you will pay when it gets to your house, i know anything over i think $20 w/ UPS you pay the fee, I know the fee is waved if shipped as a gift, or as a warrenty return/no commercial value, ect. dont quote me, check out www.ups.com, they should have some info on this. all i know is it sux and i really hate paying that charge when **** shows up @ my door, not to mention xchange rate!

 

Now that I think about it, you're right about the duty which is why many packages are labelled as a gift with a nominal value. I doubt that Budget can do that with a y-pipe.

 

I just got off the phone with the people of LSS, and he quoted me $275 cad shipped to my door - no worries for the duties/charges at the border since it's built into the shipping price. That comes out to about $240 usd. How does ordering work? Do I just give them my credit card number and it gets charged the correct amount in USD?

 

They will bill the transaction in Canadian dollars and the credit card company will convert it to US dollars. It works the same way for me when I go to the US - the transaction is in US dollars and I pay Visa in Canadian dollars.

Don't sweat the small stuff (the current exchange rate) as you will have bought a good product.

I had no fitment issues, no noticeable noise increase other than at WOT and I passed Air Care last September with no problem. If you have emissions testing to go through, just make sure the car is well warmed up.

 

I just ordered some clothes online from a US website and I didn't get charged any kind of brokerage/duty fees...I was surprised since they hit me bad when I ordered my DC bumper lights.

 

as far as i know there is no tax on international customers and i dont think there is any curecny exchage, duty charges. You will be billed in Canadian Dollars and ur bank will convert it to US.

Isn't WS still doing the $160 deal, or was over a while ago? I got mine during summer for $160 shipped.

 

That's done, I called and asked. They offer $200 shipped on ebay now. I just picked up a used y and called it a day.

 

there is no fixed exchange rate, it is fluctuated.
