Educate me on 20XX Maxima problems

I'm looking to go back to a Maxima from my 2001 Pathy LE. Last time I owned a Maxima was a 1999 model.

I haven't kept up with Maxima's since but have heard about a tranny / torque converter problem in the 04-07?'s.

Can someone educate me with 2001-2008 Maxima's about which options (5 speed?) to stay away from and what are the big problems with each model year?

I looked through the 2000 forum stickies and tried a search but couldn't find anything that breaks it down.

Thanks

You can search yourself. Its not hard. You're not going find anything that spoon feeds you everything in one post.

STAY AWAY FROM THE 6TH GEN 5 SPEED AUTO TRANNY.

The early vq35 (02-06) had potential oil-burning issues. Also, the precats would fail and engine damage would result.

2000 had NATS in its infancy as well but you had that in 99 when it first came out...coils in 2000 as well.

But look around the FAQs at the top of each gen subforum, you'll find all your answers tehre

00-01 5th gens have a 3.0 and 5-speed, 02-03 5.5th gens have the 3.5 and a 6-speed. 04 is the beginning of the 6th gen.
