Car Wont Go Past 2500RPMS
Car Wont Go Past 2500RPMS
I've been suspecting my transmission has been going out for a couple of days now. 1-2 shifts are perfect however 2-3 and 3-4 shifts seem to slip only when accelerating softly. This morning the car was hardly doing it but all of the sudden the car became very sluggish and wouldn't go past 2500rpm no matter how far I pushed the gas I believe the max speed I was able to obtain was 45mph or close to that. There is NO CEL at all. Would it be some kind of ghost code I should be looking for? Also the car made a VERY strange noise when I turned it off like a squealing noise or something like that. You guys ever expierence something like this?

LOL maybe it is a ghost. Okay so I check for codes and NO CODES!!!!! All connections were good. But it gets ugly I start the car and put it into reverse it makes a very weird sound that reminded me of a power torque wrench running out of power lol. Anyways the car wouldn't move in reverse on its own so I give it gas up to 1000rpm nothing 2000rpm nothing. I'm getting kinda irratated so I try to put it to 3000rpm and at 2200rpm BAM the gear engages and I almost plant my face in the steering wheel. The car is acting normally so far but damn that was the hardest jerk in the world!!!! Anyone know of any good tranny shops. All I know is AAMCO are they any good?
Damn I know 99000 miles on it my car is too young to die!!! I can't get over that reverse thing though It sounded like an explosion when the gear engaged. Hmmm too bad insurance doesn't cover this type of thing I have full coverage. Maybe I can sneak it into the dealership and get it traded in for a newer maxima. Or if that doesn't work have a friend drive it to mexico and claim it stolen!
I'm not sure if this will help but, my catalytic converter on my truck just went and it was basically the same thing. The only sign I really had was that I heard a clunking and couldn't get past about 50 and 2500 RPM's. I thought it was the tranny until I went underneath and hit the cat and all it did was rattle. So I guess you could try that and hope it isn't your tranny.
I checked the car for codes again and I got an 1104 which is improper shifting to second gear. Its stupid though cause the car shifts fine into second gear its all the other gears that have the problem!!! I may take my car in to AAMCO and see what they say unless you guys know of any better transmission shops to go to.

Your tranny is probably fine, put a new MAF in the car.

Agreed, my friend and i were racing our friends 240 with a RB swap, and he sprayed and got intake detonation blew the MAF as well as the filter is pretty messed up as well as some other engine knocking noises. but when we were driving home, it woldn't rev past 2500, its def your MAF

You've got to get the engine running correctly before you can tell if the tranny is shifting correctly or not. It's the correct way to trouble shoot.
GIJO = Garbage In, Junk Out.
Same applies for the tranny, poor power input = poor performance output.
Thanks for your guys help and support but as of 2/16/06 my auto tranny died. There is no more 3rd or 4th gear. 1st and half of 2nd remains. Max speed is 65@5100rpms. The car now bangs into first or reverse and loses its place from time to time. There is absolutely no WOT, the car can go past 2500rpms now but it has a hard time getting up to proper speed. Damn its going to be EXPENSIVE!!!! Yeah unfortunately my tranny is a lemon, I'm not driving it anymore since having to keep the car above 4000rpms to maintain speed KILLS gas milage and I don't want to ruin anything else. I found a shop I'm gonna take it in and have it fixed or if the price is right bulletproofed the shop offered me a discount since I'm in a car program at school and the shop performs work on the donated Toyotas and Lexus cars there. I miss my Maxima!

I would replace your MAF sensor before even touching your tranny.
