One of my brother's friends wants to run my car against his AUTOMATIC Ford Probe GT for 500 bucks!!!! I checked out the car today...and it doesn't look modified AT ALL from stock...he just got it recently. I popped the hood...and he doesn't have a blower or NOS...and no bottle in the hatchback. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have ANYTHING at all done to the car. Should I race him for half a grand????? I know I can beat any Probe GT 5-speed or auto with bolt-ons by a good margin....they would need a blower or NOS just to keep up. What should I do....it's tempting

BriGuy, i used to own a probe GT (93) and an MX-6 V6 (93, same engine different car.) if he has no visible mods, i'd say race him and whoop his ***. Even with visible mods, that engine doesnt respond worth S#it to modifications. Only thing i can think of that might give you some trouble is if he has a KL-ZE engine swap, which is a direct bolt in, from some Eunos sedan (maybe its cosmos, i forget) in europe and has 200 hp and 174 ft-lb stock. But even with that, and without any other mods short of a small nitrous shot, you will whoop his ***. You know you've taken probe GT 5-speeds before, so im sure you know you can take this auto. Was this on LSD and hallucinating that he had a fast car when he bet you $500? Do you think he will actually pay up when you kick the crap out of him.

 

I don't know what the kid is on....he talks crap CONSTANTLY about everything....who knows if he'll even bring the cash. He always talks about getting some '90 Mustang 5.0...that runs 11's with only headers and intake....he's NUTS....

You know what? Since you said he just got the car, he probably thinks his car is fast because he haven't even race anyone worth racing. You know how it is. People get so cocky when they think their car is oh so fast, that is, until they get their *** handed to them. However, I'm a bit suspicious. Why would he want to race you for money if he don't have any "go" parts in his car? Maybe, he'll pop that bottle in when you guys race. Or maybe, he is really NUTS! When you race him and beat him afterward, advise him to go check in the mental ward.

 

He'd be able to tell if he had nitrous, even if he didnt have the bottle in the car. There would be a bunch of stainless steel lines running all over the engine compartment, a guage or 2 in there, and some solenoids. They would all look very out of place. If he had nitrous, briguy would know. and hey, hes only about 3 seconds off regarding the mustang with headers and intake... lololol

 

how far away is the race? just hope he doesnt buy all kindsa **** and pop it in before the race. Did he say "race my car like it is now?" People will do some dirty things for money. Don't give into temptation! Go by instinct. Good luck to ya

do it, im soo serious. i went to the 1/8 track and did about 2 runs with a 1997 5spd probe gt with just a muffler and intake(i have a catback and intake). i got consistant 9.7's and he couldnt break 10's. then we raced 2 more times and he went with open headers, same result. so i beat this 5spd, im sure you will kill the auto. DO IT!!!!

 

I would laugh at his a**. Dude I raced a 5 speed and I have an automatic and I tore his a** up. I dont have any mods. I dont know if it was the driver or what but he didnt stand a chance.

Well, you better kick his a$$ then. I raced one with a Volvo V70 GLT and I was hangin tight with him. The Maxima is faster than the Volvo. You better kick his a$$.

Since you're 5sp and he's auto, you can beat him. A stock Probe GT 5sp is about even with a stock Max auto. There are SC kits and NOS kits for that car though. Also, make sure there aren't too many turns as those Probes are great handling cars.

btw, the Eunos is the Miata, so it's probably the Cosmos engine swap.

 

hmmm its been long enuf since this was first posted... did you ever race the guy? did you win? or was he talkin about 500 cents or some shiet?

 

Nothing yet...he keeps saying "next week"...I'm putting my NOS in this week, so when I do that I'll go to his house and challenge him right there...and if he for some reason has NOS and sprays...than I'll just spray too...hehe. I'll DEFINITEY keep you guys updated.
