ac compressor noise, anyone else get this before?

Last summer I drowned my car in a huge puddle that came up to the door (car not lowered!), and a few days later I started getting this horrible whining noise thats been traced to my ac compressor. When the ac is turned on the noise IMMEDIATLY stops. WTF can i do besides get a new ac compressor? Could i regrease or spray some lube in there?

Sounds like the bearing on the inside got wet. Try adding a little a/c ester oil to the system and see if that helps.

If adding oil to the system doesn't work your ac WILL eventually seize up and snap your belt and you will be driving without any charge from the alternator. I had on and off noise for a few months before BOOM!

Try to find a local shop or something because the dealer will cost about $600 give or take...mostly give.

I'm in the same shoes. Just bought a junkyard compressor from ebay for 99.99. Mine was a result of losing the splash shield for the engine, all the moisture killed the bearing. I dont think theres much else you could do than replace it.

Turn on your a/c for a bit and make sure the clutch on the compressor engauges ( u should here a very audible click) and the outside of compressor (the clutch)will be spinning. This should pump the oil though the system. If that does not work you will have to replace it. I ran mine till it seized up and broke a new $30 belt. The bearings inside the compressor over time wear out. My a/c blew ice cold the whole time so I thought the noise was the idler pulley. Good luck

Just so u know a new compressor holds 8oz of oil, so u might want to add little more just to be safe before u spend $$$$ on a new compressor. Just don't add too much!! no more than 4 more onces i would say.
