Aftermarket Air Filters???

Ok, i've been meaning to post this, iv'e got my car looking pretty good now and I want to squeeze a little more power out of her. Now, i know on a v-8 car the k&n filters and intake kits you buy do produce good power gains. I've owned 2 mustangs (85GT&2000GT) both with k&n's.

My question is Is it really worth buying an aftermarket filter for my maxima?? I don't want to shell out worthless $$ for a 1hp gain. The deeper intake sound is cool, but too ricey in my opinion for the respectful VQ engine. NO offense to you who disagree. I'm just wondering if this mod is worth it or should I just forget it? Thanks

Sounds as if you already made up your mind, but I like my aftermarket intake. I thought it was worth it. Just my $.02

No i'm open to getting one, I just don't want to waste $ on it when I could spend it on something that will actually give me performance gains. I want to know if the gains are very minimal or good that's all?

I actually bought mine for 44.64 w/ free shipping from Fox Performance. It is a K&N universal replacement filter part #RF-1009. You can call them at 1-909-824-8008 they are excellent to deal with. And for your question on getting more HP for your $$ definately get a Y-pipe.
NOTE: The only thing is that you have to drill your own hole for the Air Temp Sensor.

Yea as many threads have posted before, air filters and intakes really don't add any extra horse, 1hp if any (most people say). Y-pipe has the best bang for the buck.

Buy a y-pipe its money well spent. You WILL feel the gains immediately, and your exhaust tone will change ever so slightly.

There's A LOT of info in the STICKIES, read there. CAI's you have to drill a 3" hole in your fender, short rams suck in hot air and lose low end power, and Injen CAI's suck in radiator heat.

Yeah, I like the stock air filter with the budget Y-pipe. No loss of low end torque and just a little extra exhaust noise.

^blitz x3 lol... j/k Well i would look into getting a K&N air filter mainly because they are reusable. Not because they claim to give you HP just mainly cause one K&N cost $40 some odd and paper filters are $25-30. You can aleast reuse the K&N for a good 2-3 reusage.

Actually Turtle, K&Ns have a million mile warranty, and all you have to do is wash them out and and re oil. It is really easy, and saves money in the long run

You should be able to pass emissions with the y-pipe. And it's a little bit louder than stock. Not really noticable

You just have to let the car run for a while (15 min.) so it can warm up and you should be good for emissions.

Remember when you oil the filter up, do not over oil or you would put your MAF sensor at risk.

If u wanna add power get a turbo setup, or contact matty and get a supercharger starter kit

I love my V1

The exhaust note will be hardly discernable from stock with a Y-pipe. And you will deffinetely feel the difference. As far as passing emissions, like already mentioned, keep the car warmed up before the test. If you go somewhere that takes a long time and you feel your car will just be sittin there, get your inspection done early. Sometime durin the summer so your car doesnt cool off so quickly as it would durin the winter months.

I dont know how they do it in alabama but up in NY if your car is OBDII they read the ECU, no more N0X tests through the exhaust up here.
