Brake Problems...dont know if car is safe to drive

so i just started noticing some problems with my brakes....i have 43000 miles on my car...my e brake light has been going on and off (when the e brake is down) i checked the brake fluid and its above the minimum line...now when i am driving the car i hear a noise coming from the front left brakes...cant figure out what it could be...its only when im NOT braking and its not loud at all but it sounds like metal rubbing up against something...possibly the rotor? and the last noise is when i have the car in reverse and i step on the brakes it makes some kind of terrible noise...its sounds like grinding but not metal on metal...if you guys have any ideas i would really appreciate hearing what they are...i know i need to get the brakes serviced since i havent yet...but im debating if i should just buy all new rotors and pads since they are probably warped pretty bad by now...any help would be great...im going to search through a bunch of pages in the meantime...

thanks

doug

You need new pads and maybe rotors if they are warped.

Its safe to drive for a little while (you've probably got a couple of good brake checks left!) but you should get them changed sometime soon.

Check your brake lines for leaks. I had this problem after installing coilovers. I made sure they were secure and it stopped.

Change your pads. If you wait too long they will ruin your rotors and you'll have to get new ones.

I have an issue with my brakes as well. I just changed brake pads recently as well as the battery and both my e-brake and battery light is on. I double checked the brake pads to make sure they were in there pretty secure and the battery was checked at an Auto Zone and they proved it was a good battery. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Oh yeah, one more thing; the light comes on intermittenly. When I turn the car on, it turns off after 10 minutes of driving. Sometimes when I turn on the car the light does not come on, but after a few minutes of driving, it will come on.
