Just got back from the Dealership for my 75,000 mile checkup, and they told me that I have an oil leak, and that the oil pan needs to be replaced. Is there anywhere I could get this done cheaper than the stealership. Where is a good place that I could buy the parts needed from and take it to get replaced. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

The oil pan on our cars our small and from the looks, very asy to work on. I've replaced gaskets on front drive 4 cylinders and they are a pain since you always have to remove an exhaust component. If you mechanical you can do it yourself. If I remember, I think one bolt may be difficult but it should not be a problem with the proper tools.

You can lightly tighten the bolts on the oil pan. Most likey they have loosened themselves a little causing a small leak. Be careful not to overtighten or you will really be screwed.

If you decide to take it somewhere, make sure you wait till you need an oil change.

Did you see any oil under your parked car any time prior to this? Is the whole bottom of the engine wet with oil? There are two oil pans....the Al alloy one (upper) that is bolted to the block and the steel lower one. Oil from higher up on the engine sometimes leaks (or gets spilt) and it runs/drips down to and capillaries around the oil pan flange(s). I would like to see you get a second opinion.

Dropping the pan and replacing the gasket is not too hard...just kind of messy..

Drain oil, take out filter, wait for it to drip, take off pan, replace gasket, reverse

You can get the parts from a dealer. Call around because prices vary.

i had oil leak at 88k cuz i noticed some oil under the car and is all wet/oily underneath =/ i'm stupid i paid $176 for a shop to put new gasket and oil pan in for me i'm those kind of people that gets nervous when something abnormal happens to the car and i'll pay whatevers to get it fixed
