How the F did you fit the KYB dust boots over your struts?

I'm in the middle of my suspension, and I'm having one hell of a time trying to get these rear dust boots to work. I bought the SB108 boots for the rear, and am putting them on the rear KYB AGX struts. THEY WILL NOT FIT OVER THE "STEP" on the strut, and without going over that, the mount/bushing set won't fit. I've tried soapy water, and PAM (don't ask) and brute strength and they will just not fit. I've crosschecked the part numbers to ensure that I have the right parts.
Did anyone else have any kind of problems like this? I just got off the phone with Import Replacement parts, and they couldn't help me out since none of them have ever installed boots on a maxima before. Please help me out.

I used a hair dryer and heated up the rubber boots until they were soft. After that I slid them on no prob, give it a try.

i had the same problem on my Illuminas. i ended up dremeling out a bit of the inside of the boot and making it a little bigger, but still a tight fit.

I know exactly what you mean though. They are a really tight fit, but they should go.

I wish I knew that. I just spent 45 minutes last night working those dust boots over a pair of agx's.

That's a little longer than it took me to try to put ONE dust boot on a rear strut...thankfully I asked this question.

why would you go past that point, i left mine above it, the strut cannot make the full travel if the bump stop is below that point???

Damn, I wish I thought of using a hair dryer, I just said F' it reused my stocks. I guess I'll remember it the next time I have to pull the suspension again.

...because the rear mount set won't allow the top nut to be threaded with that configuration...too big

I put a little liquid laundry detergent and some water around the "step" on the strut and then on the inside of the dust boot bump stop. It just slid right over.

Spray some silicon lube or WD-40 inside the boot and on the notch of the shock. It will slip right over the notch very easily.

Honestly... hair drier's dremmels, doesn't anybody think around here?
