This probably isn't the place to post this, but I was driving my mom's M3 home from the airport in Phoenix and cruising down the highway at about 80 or so when a 2K/2K1 SE flew right by me in the other lane, then slowed down to wait for me. Mom's grocery-getter is a 2000 M3, silver, stick. Didn't quite feel right doing it to a fellow Maxima, but I figured what the hell, and went for it. Kinda brought tears to my eyes to see him 4 or five lengths back by the time I got to 120, but I guess he should've known better...My mom wants an automatic car...maybe I could trade her...just don't know if she'll go for the 120hp difference. Damn, and I'm stuck driving this thing for 2 weeks...

hehe. You have an Accord Sedan. I think Honda messed up the good looking front bumper on the 2001 coupes! The slots filled with the black crap is ugly! I do like the tailight touchup they did on the sedans though.

This is a joke right? I do believe the part about an M3 ripping a Max to 120. This "grocery-getter" and "stuck driving" is a lil too much don't you think? Same thing happened to me but I was driving my mom's 1997 911 Turbo S "to the knitting store" car but it was an M3 that got killed.

Um, yeah, I was being sarcastic. Found out today that on the little panel under the clock there's a mode that tells you what the highest speed gone since you last reset it was. Found out cause mom looked there and saw "221 khp", which should roughly translate to the speed I was going when I was goofing around with the SE. Now all I've been hearing is "rental car" this and that...oops....

BTW 2000 M3 still has 240 hp.
its 02 that have 340.
So either you're full of it, or you don't know your BMWs too well.

Hey, guess what? I kept up with one from about 60 to low triple digits until we hit traffic. Tried that with a Dinan version.... let's just say it wasn't pretty.

I agree he is full of it! Has the car for two weeks he just said so how did his mom just see this 221km/h panel thing. And making the sarcastic remarks trying to be like a typical BMW owner. Gimme a break!

Consider that a 99 E46 ///M3 by Dinan.
Nah, it was a black one.

No, I'm not full of it, but yo_its_ok is right, I don't know my bimmers too well, and 343 hp was the last figure I remember hearing about the M3. I know hers is a 2k, and this is 2nd time I've driven it. I have no idea how much hp a 2k has, but the thing feels damned fast compared to my Maxima. I just flew in on Sat., so I haven't had the car more than 3 days, and she just got back from working in Flagstaff yesterday, when she found the record of my little adventure. Today when I get back from Laughlin it's rental car time anyways...does anyone know if Grand Am GT's are fast?

Fast is relative. If you are rolling in an M3 2K or not you won't have a problem with 98% of the cars on the road. Skipping the mag time BS that people go by you would hang with Vettes, stangs, 911's and tons of other cars. Just learn how to drive it since most people don't know how to drive their cars to the true potential. An M3 (stick) is made to be driven hard and to the extreme why else would someone buy one? 220KM is your top speed so far??? You should be able to hit 240KM in that no prob...250KM if you got the road and *****. My Mom's 1997 911 Turbo S will do 300KM no prob!

Grand Am GT, from a rental car company? Not likely. If you're getting Pontiac then you're probably renting from Avis, right? Push it up a level and get a "2-door full sized." This will give you a shot at a Grand Prix GT. They usually have a few of those and at least it won't be a slug. The usual Grand Am's on the lot are pokey, drive like crap, and are cheap. For any power, you'll have to step up out of the mid-sized category. You usually find a few full-sized options (even Maximas at Hertz and sometimes Avis) with some power. Grand Prix GT, Impala/Monte Carlo, Buick LaSabre. They're all slugs relative to the M3.

The thing that sucks is that I'm kinda out in the middle of nowhere, and the only major rental car company is avis out at the airport. The guy on the phone said they had GAGT's, but seeing as how I'm gonna be driving a Grand Am SE for the next week and a half, he apparently knows less about cars than I do. On the bright side however, it's gonna feel damned fine to slip back behind the wheel of my Maxima.

I am sorry for bothering you, but there is no 2000 M3. 1999 M3 was the last year of production E36 style... 2001 is the first year of production E46 style.... I don't know why BMW skipped year 2k. If you still think there's 2000 M3, try www.autotrader.com and say bmw and enter zip code wherever you live, then choose m3. Then say from 2000 to 2000. Then search. Leave price range and distance thing. You cannot buy 2000 M3 even if you have $999999999999999999999999 because there ain't no 2000 model...
Still sorry for bothering you...
